I love it and I thought about the same ideas couple of times since Slack has definitely became a place which slowly replaces business email in our company. I'm using Todoist extensively since few months and I love it (it replaced Trello). An integration with todoist would make this product the perfect one for me or maybe I should consider switching over to Sortd? Is anyone using them as their main TODO list?
Wayne Silbermann
@arnaud_breton Yes, I am. Daily. And it's awesome. Switch! ;-) On a serious note, integrations like that are on the roadmap. For now I would say it depends on what Todoist features you use extensively. If you aren't doing anything too fancy then I think it would be viable to switch.

If Trello and Slack had a baby. The team behind the popular Sorted for Gmail extension just launched Sorted for Slack! 🤗

I wonder how Slack would react to this. It's VERY smart. I was part of a start up that created a messaging app that enabled users to turn chat messages to Action items. So this is very similar except leverages the Slack platform.

Sortd's client needs U2F support so that Google accounts using U2F can register/login/use their product. EDIT: and a way to switch Google accounts.. Now that I've logged into one, I can't log into the other (or switch Google accounts at all). Really messy account management going on with this. Now the app is unusable because I can't find a way to clear the Google account data.... (suggestion for @bradgreathead @waynesilby @rodneykuhn)

Congrats on a great product launch @waynesilby

@nivo0o0, thanks for the hunt! We’re super excited to announce the Sortd for Slack public beta release. Rod, Brad and myself are here to answer any questions. To give some insight into the origins of this product… Sortd for Gmail has become increasingly popular as an effective way to manage email. We’ve had tons of requests for the ability to share lists, tasks etc. Since privacy is a big deal when it comes to email we felt that it just made more sense to build on top of Slack for our team collaboration value prop (at least initially). The main idea behind Sortd for Slack is that it’s a Trello-like experience, but the communication component is Slack itself, so you can chat to your team and manage an action plan in the same app. There are some great innovations that allow people to action conversations, but the ‘mainstream’ communication apps like Gmail and Slack are like magnets - it’s just too hard to leave them. There are more integrations planned but Slack was an obvious fit to begin with. Hope you enjoy it, and really looking forward to your feedback!

@waynesilby - really exciting to see where you've taken Sortd!

@waynesilby Beautiful! I was sold at "Nope, it's not another bot... this thing has an actual interface!"
Wayne Silbermann
@clarkvalberg finally... welcome to the party ;-) Thanks for the vote of confidence. Love what you guys have been up to as well. Saw the Craft Freehand launch a few weeks back - legendary!

@waynesilby Is there a way to test it rapidly? I am in a need of a task management system in slack for a client and I am interested in testing your app! looks awesome. I have registered so I am in the queue already. thanks a lot

I literally live in Trello... is this a viable replacement? Or would it only do some of what trello does?
Wayne Silbermann
@drewmeyers It doesn't have complete feature parity with Trello yet, but I would say it covers what 80% of users do on a daily basis. So you can't do 'advanced' things like pasting images onto cards. Maybe best to play around and see if it will work. Feel free to fire across any questions you have re functionality.

Nice, been looking for this for a while!
Hernán Romero
Thanks for creating this! I immediately recommended this to my team. Let's hope that there's a good response.
Frank Tabora
This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for recently

Wayne! I was JUST thinking about you guys. So excited to see this latest innovation. Checking out now. Sending big hugs!
Wayne Silbermann
@katherinekrug Hey Kathy! Glad you spotted it :) Hugs right back. Hope you are well!

Probably a nice app if I can get over the fact that you need gmail access to read, send and delete my email?! Deal breaker.
Wayne Silbermann
@venkatkorvi You can sign in with any Gmail account if you are concerned about privacy. We just use it for authentication. The permissions are set this way because it syncs up with your Sortd for Gmail account (if you use Sortd for Gmail). Slack-only authentication will be an option at a later point.
Brandon
This is cool but I've been waiting on support tickets for your Gmail integration for months.
Wayne Silbermann
@getbrandflakes Please resend directly to me if you still have any record of them? I searched our helpdesk system and I couldn't find your tickets.
Alex Flom
Exciting idea! Unfortunately, looks like there is not way to zoom in (text is too small on high res screens)
Wayne Silbermann
@alex_flom Noted, will add that to the backlog.
Alex Flom
@waynesilby Also I think that the permission request to access and read all emails is a conversion killer
Wayne Silbermann
@alex_flom We plan to make it possible to sign in with only your Slack account. To be honest we don't actually need those permissions for the Slack product itself - it was done this way to be able to sync with Sortd for Gmail. If you are concerned about privacy it doesn't matter what Gmail account you sign in with, we just use it for authentication. So if you want you can use a 'throw-away' Gmail address. Google will probably hate you for that but we don't mind ;-)

I just got Sortd for Slack, but wait. There are a few rough edges that can be fixed. 1. Changing a Slack channel name removes the list. I had to go through adding all the todo items again. 2. Can do with automatic focus on typing while jotting down todo items - please do not force me to click "+" button to type every time. These are something off my head on a few minutes of using. I hope to see Sortd for Slack grow. Best wishes.

Hey! This is mint!

I would have liked this better as a bot actually as right now, 1. I have to log in to a Google a/c and a Slack a/c even when I'm logged in already. 2. It creates a new user. I can't manage it with my a/c. Then it asked me to sign in twice and suddenly after some time asked to authorize. I closed it and when restarted, it asked me to sign in again. I didn't really get a chance to see what it does.

@waynesilby is there a specific code for us to use to try the app?
Michael Hyatt
I signed up for the Team version. How do I get my team on-board? Do they have to sign up for the same thing, too? In other words is that $8 per user per month?
Abbas Jaffar Ali
Where does your mobile fit into this? Can you access your tasks using your iPhone/Android?
Wayne Silbermann
@ajaffarali There's still some work to be done on that front but all of the Slack boards and tasks come up in the Sortd mobile app.
Abbas Jaffar Ali
@waynesilby Thanks! Also, can you be signed into multiple Slack teams using Sortd?
Wayne Silbermann
@ajaffarali The current version is single team only. There's a multi-team version in development.
Stowe Boyd
@waynesilby @ajaffarali I wrote about task management in Slack recently: http://sto.ly/2n5Xc4x. Sortd for Slack looks great.
Abbas Jaffar Ali
@stoweboyd @waynesilby Tasks was the biggest reason we moved from Slack to Glip. But the unmatched quality of app made us come back to Slack.
