U.K. users will now find video courses for purchase alongside their favorite music, podcasts, and audiobooks covering four themes: make music, get creative, learn business, and healthy living.
Personally I think this is great — Now that they've done audiobooks , and some audiobooks have additional materials like PDF inserts, or adjacent courses etc... coupled with the fact that Spotify is expanding into video content (i.e. music videos ), and they JUST launched their new miniplayer, it only makes sense that they'd expand on that foundation to add more value to premium membership...
They might even add a higher subscription tier that includes audiobooks, courses, music videos, and more...
This is a cool surprise from one of the most mature design teams around. I'm excited to check it out. I've heard anecdotally recently that people are running into the audiobook listening limits. So I bet there will be more change and evolution to come with these new content types on Spotify and I'm all for it.
Wow - spotify have really been shipping products this week. Really interesting you're getting into courses and content creation. Congrats on the launch team.
I remember when Spotify started testing courses. It makes so much sense to combine long form content with education.
Looking forward to see how this plays out!
