Thanks for putting this together - this is not just something great for the folks trying to find communities but also those who run them like myself. We've been running our community for over 2 years now. Glad to announce our we've recently hit 7,000 members and hosted numerous in-person events across the world. Hosted some great AMAs as well, like Gary Vee, Neil Patel, Rand Fishkin and much more. Anything we can do to help Standuply please let me know.
@davidmarkovich_ OG Online Genius, can attest to OG's awesomeness. Best Slack in the known Universe. Found clients, friends, partners, contractors and just a fantastic place to hangout. Shout out to David for keeping it poppin'
@davidmarkovich_ David, thank you so much for your feedback. I'm also excited to see how Slack communities are growing and OG is one of the best ones for sure. Let's discuss how we can make things even better together ;)
@davidmarkovich_ I'm a huge fan of OG. Beyond just being an incredible resource for marketers, it's a masterclass in how to run professional community. David spends immense amounts of time moderating the community, encouraging people to participate and making sure that the signal to noise ratio remains astoundingly good.
@davidmarkovich_@sprinter Would LOVE to chat with you guys! We recently built Pinguin after seeing these Slack communities start to pop up and flourish. Our thought is that as Slack has provided probably one of the best communication tools ever, they're not quite perfect for discoverability (among other things) of awesome communities. For instance, this is the first I'm hearing of OG Online Genius and can't believe I haven't come across it yet. I'd love to hear some pain points you might be seeing/having with the current solution and see if we might be able to work toward providing you a more stable and all encompassing solution. After all, that is why we build Pinguin. We spotted the need for rich, engaging, topic based conversation and jumped in head first. Let me know if we could set up a call or in your in Los Angeles, perhaps meet and discuss over a coffee. I think you'll at the very least appreciate where we're headed as we'd love to make building, growing, and maintaining these communities 10x easier.
Hey there, Product Hunters!
I'm Alex, co-founder at http://standuply.com and together with @inyan we're super excited to share our work with you today! Thanks @erictwillis for hunting us ;)
Slack keeps growing like crazy with new ways of using the app besides team communications. Last year we explored that and composed the list of 400 Slack communities. You might saw it on the web.
Nine months later we decided to run the same research to observe the trend and hopefully find new tasty communities. It turns out a lot has happened. More than 1000 Slack communities are thriving online!
It’s fascinating to see the rise of Slack communities. See our findings:
- in 9 months the number of Slack communities increased by 2.5 times;
- the total number of their members is more than 1,000,000 people;
- Bootstrap chat grew from 3500 to 15,000 members in less than a year.
It took us some time and a lot of coffee to compose this list. To make it easier for you, we created a dedicated website where we categorized all the communities at your disposal.
Enjoy ;)
@sprinter@ambonium Hey Alex, you can add our community slack.nativebase.io under 'Mobile Development' maybe. NativeBase is an open source UI library for React Native.
@sprinter Still exploring Alex, recommend me couple of communities on startups, marketing, growth hacking (in case you are interested in these topics too) :)
@natalie_korotaeva it took us more than a month to find all the communities and filter dead ones. it was a tough job as no automation was used during that process.
Fantastic effort putting this list together! I created the #techlondon group back at the beginning of 2015 which has grown to over 5000 members. I am now going to be concentrating on growing/improving the #podcasters community as well as Modtalk (a group for slack moderators @davidmarkovich_ set up). I feel that running real time communities on slack offers a lot of benefits over other platforms providing the moderators & members put in the time & effort to structure & nurture them. Hat tip goes to @levelsio for being one of the first to come up with the idea of turning slack groups into real time public forums.
Great list. Would be cool if there was some way to see not only the number of members but also how many new messages there are every day because some Slack communities have a lot of members but there's not a lot of activity.
Great job! Adding menu/links to the subcategories will make the navigation much simpler.
For example, local talks will include at the top a list of continents or states.
For the mods of all these communities and the people in them... this one is for you! https://www.producthunt.com/post... Shoutout to Slack for coming through in the clutch! 😊
