h/t to @charlesjo for this find. At 40:40, @rogerdickey shared a bit about Gigster's first launch on Product Hunt: We got the first customers from that Product Hunt launch. That was the first launch[…] One of the clear signs that we built something people really wanted was, we asked people what their approximate budget was for a project[…] We went through the database and added up all the budgets for the projects that were submitted and it was $3 million worth of projects in a day or two since launch which was pretty incredible for us. We didn’t, of course, closing all that business. We ended up closing some of those projects, and more over time. When you’re doing a development service, social proof is a big part of it. Having some history, having customers that can provide a reference, having a portfolio of past work. Building a brand for a development service is a very difficult thing to do. This is something I think about a lot.

@mj_baum @rrhoover @rogerdickey very good points indeed. I'm a fan of Gigster since their idea (along with WorkHere.com) is so different and refreshing compared to the usual job boards I see. I'm also very intrigued by Product Hunt as a must-have sales and marketing tool for not only the Yo apps of the day but seriously hard core enterprise tools.

@mj_baum @rrhoover @rogerdickey and Product Hunt may be the ultimate validation tool: build MVP, launch on PH, and if you get $3M worth of orders in 1-2 days, you've probably found a product-market fit :)
