We’re excited to announce our 1st YC Build Sprint. This is a 4-week period where you'll work intensively towards a goal, alongside a community of founders. The sprint kicks off on Aug 24. We'll award 20 equity-free grants to companies who complete the sprint.

Seems really cool. We did startup school last year with @eliotandres and it really helped us accelerate PhotoRoom and also get into YC. I would really recommend it. I am also curious about the improvements from last year?
Kyle Corbitt
@eliotandres @matthieurouif Glad you enjoyed SUS and got into the batch! If you're interested in the changes between last year and the current continuous program, this blog post may be helpful: https://blog.ycombinator.com/sta...

@eliotandres @matthieurouif @corbtt Major fan of the continuous program as a life long learner. Can’t wait to spend the next four weeks building like crazy!

Looks cool. Curious why the metric for success here is growth instead of user satisfaction, retention, or Product/Market Fit? Seems like this will be gamed to the detriment of the startups.
Eric Migicovsky
@to You can set any metric/goal you would like during the sprint - the key is growing that metric! So you could absolutely set your goal to be increase 30 day retention from 25% to 40%, or to increase the % of satisfied users (ala https://firstround.com/review/ho...)
Trevor Owens
@ericmigi that's great to know and makes the program a lot more appealing.

Hey everyone! Really excited to launch the YC Build Sprint. We've been working on this for the last month. The main goal here is to help founders get as much done as possible in a 4-week period. We've found that time pressure can be really helpful for productivity, even if it's external (and even somewhat contrived). Really excited to see what everyone gets done over the next month. Let's build!

@corbtt "You do not need to achieve your sprint goal to be eligible." What does that mean?
Kyle Corbitt
@bishal_saha1 That's referring to the 20 $10k grants we're giving out post-sprint -- eligibility for the grants isn't tied to whether you achieve the goal you set for yourself.
Bishal Saha
@corbtt I don't get it, so I don't have to achieve the goal?
Kyle Corbitt
@bishal_saha1 the point of the goal is to push yourself to work harder -- YC doesn't evaluate you on whether you hit your goal, and in fact we want to encourage participants to set tough goals that are hard (but still possible) to achieve.

@corbtt challenge accepted! 🙌

As an alumnus and regular mentor during the 2019 and early 2020 Startup School cohorts I can definitely say there is a ton of value for founders here. I look forward to seeing how this differs from the 8-10 week cohorts. Kudos!~

Awesome! Often out of small projects big companies start. I went through Startup School this winter and got into YC for this summer's batch. I highly recommend everyone who is remotely thinking of starting something to go through Startup School first.
Kyle Corbitt
@nkotov Yay! Glad you found SUS useful and glad you're in our current batch. :)

This is so cool! It indeed does help getting an external push to work on your startup because it creates a competitive attitude and beating ourselves from the last benchmark becomes something that pushes your startup in the right direction.

This addresses our biggest challenge and we know we are certainly not alone. YC Startup School has been an invaluable resource and this appears to take it up a notch. Looking forward to it.

This is so timely for me and my small (pre-launch) team currently working our way through Startup School. Definitely signing up :)

@lilkioko Glad you're finding the platform useful! Definitely let us know if there's anything we can do better.

Huge fan of Startup School and this! Will YC build sprint be hosted every four weeks? I’m pre-product and just doing customer interviews to in/validate some ideas, and this might make more sense when I’m actually building the product.
Kyoko Jansson
@corbtt It is great to find this forum and platform for founders worldwide. We are alwasy looking for co-founcers who join our journeys in biometric solution/ electronics.

@corbtt This is great! If anyone wants to do a Fintech product Sila’s Banking As A Service APIs has a free sandbox. We’ll also give the 20 sprint finalists free platform access on our starter plan for the year. Docs-> https://docs.silamoney.com Demo -> https://youtu.be/R05jyjvAdWs
