GiveDirectly is an amazing charity. While most charities take cash donations, and then use that cash to provide goods or service, GiveDirectly takes cash from donors and then provides cash transfers directly to some of the poorest people in the world so that they can make their own decision on the best way to use the money to help themselves and their families. GiveDirectly is incredibly transparent, rigorous in their thinking, and data driven. They are continually run randomized controlled trials to determine the best way to run their organization, and the results have lead to them being selected as a top charity by GiveWell for five years in a row. GiveDirectly recently held a conference call for donors, and they gave me permission to include a recording of that call as an episode podcast.
