Hey Product Hunt 👋 Thanks for hunting us @hnshah 🙏 I'm Nick, the CEO & Co-founder here at Sunnyside Super excited to share what we've been working on 👇 47% of US adults are interested in cutting back their alcohol intake. 1 in 3 drink an unhealthy amount, meaning alcohol is having an outsized impact on health and longevity for more than 68M adults in the US alone. Yet fewer than 2% of drinkers take proactive action to change their drinking habits. The question we asked ourselves is *why*, given that half of us want to make a change to our drinking habits, do so few people get started? 🤔 💡 We believe we’ve found the answer. Until now, our options have been extremely limited, with virtually every service in the alcohol health space purpose built (and branded) towards achieving complete sobriety. For the millions of us who want to make a change but aren’t interested in quitting entirely, we’ve been left without options. At ☀️Sunnyside☀️ we’ve been working on a science-backed approach to help people cut back on drinking, and make positive lifestyle changes built around moderation and mindfulness. We're excited to share our app with the PH community today, so you can experience a new path to more mindful drinking that doesn’t revolve around an all-or-nothing philosophy. Having already helped more than 150,000 people achieve their healthier drinking goals, we’re leading the way in providing a much-needed alternative to those seeking balance vs. absolute zero when it comes to their drinking. Today, we’re excited to announce our new iOS app and member community, which take the Sunnyside experience to the next level. ---------- 👉👉👉 We’re offering a free 15-day trial, plus a special 20% discount just for Product Hunters (click the link above and the coupon will automatically apply). Take the 3-minute quiz to get started, and we’ll build you a personalized plan to cut back on drinking that centers around your specific goals. ---------- Here's what you can expect from Sunnyside: 🏗️ Create an upfront intention each week: Each week, we use machine learning to build you a customized recommendation based on your baselines, individual goals, focus areas, and actual progress so far. We taper gradually to help you reduce your drinking at your preferred pace. ✅ Track within the app or by texting us: Each day you’ll get reminders about your drinking goals, and can log your progress in seconds in the app, or by sending us a simple text. 👩 Support from real-life coaches: Our coaches are real people who care about healthier drinking habits. They are there to give you a helpful nudge when you need the added motivation to stay within your intended targets each day. 🤝 A Community of like-minded people: The Sunnyide community is your daily reminder that we're all in this together. Complete reflections and thought exercises to keep you motivated and focused along the way. 📊 Data and insights on your progress: See exactly how much money you save, how many calories you avoid, and how much sleep you gain from drinking more mindfully in real time. ⚡ Premium Coaching: If you want extra support in your journey, you can get access to Premium Coaching and participate in workshops, group meetings, and conversations facilitated by our team of expert coaches. 👨‍⚕️ Backed by experts: Our team of advisors is made up of medical practitioners, mental health experts as well as leaders in habit psychology. 🔒 Private and fully anonymous: We never share your information with anyone, and your consumption is fully anonymous (even to our coaches). You can feel confident in tracking honestly and staying accountable, but ensure your privacy is upheld. Sunnyside is a judgment-free zone. We will never pressure you to quit, make you feel bad about missing targets, or question your drinking habits. We’re here to help you stay accountable and improve your overall well being. ---------- Thinking about a healthy drinking reset for 2023? Here's one more feature you'll love: 📅 Dry(ish) January Challenge: With the new year fast approaching, many individuals attempt a fully sober January. Although this can be a great reset for your body, many struggle to maintain this once February rolls around, and fall back into old habits. We’ve developed a unique feature in Sunnyside to choose how you want to participate in a January health reset. You can select from various options of how you want to participate in Dry(ish) January: - A full month of sobriety - Only drinking on weekends - Reducing your consumption by 50% - Or fully customizing your plan to your needs After opting in, we’ll work with you to stick to your specific intention, and also help you taper back to a good place once February rolls around. ---------- Common questions we get asked: 🧠 What is Mindful Drinking? Mindful drinking is more than an idea. It’s a movement. A community growing larger by the day. Put simply, it’s all about thinking while drinking. Mindful drinking is not about quitting alcohol, but instead being intentional about when you drink, aware of how much you’re drinking, and paying attention to its impact on you in the moment. It’s about recognizing the reasons for and the ramifications of drinking. It’s about improving your relationship with alcohol so you maximize enjoyment and minimize negative side effects like hangovers, regrets, and anxiety. ☀️ Who is Sunnyside for? Sunnyside is for anyone who drinks alcohol, especially those who want to explore the positive benefits of drinking more mindfully. Whether you just want to learn and understand more about your own drinking habits, or you want to reduce your consumption, your journey is fully customized and prepared for YOU. ---------- We’re excited to share Sunnyside with the Product Hunt audience. We’re offering a Free 15-day trial, plus a special 20% off of our annual subscription just for Product Hunters. Just click the link above to automatically apply the coupon, then take our 3-minute quiz to get started with your personalized plan for cutting back on drinking. Looking forward to hearing what you think!

Timely launch with New Years Resolutions coming up. I like alcohol and won't be quitting, but I find it less enjoyable the older I get, especially when it affects my sleep or physical well-being the following day (when I drink more than a few glasses).
Nadya Khoja
@rrhoover thanks for commenting! It certainly affects your sleep a lot more and limits your ability to get real recovery the more you consume. After I started tracking more actively, I was able to become more aware of which nights I was able to get better sleep and focus. Hope you enjoy the app and find it helpful with new years around the corner (or join us for the Dry(ish) January challenge!)
Nick Allen
@rrhoover Exactly! The new year is a great opportunity to reconsider drinking habits. It's one of the highest leverage health investments you can make when you consider the impact drinking can have on sleep, recovery, mood and stress levels, and diet and weight — not to mention long term heart and liver health. I appreciate you checking us out, and taking the time to share your thoughts!
Puneet Kohli
Pretty cool and I like the overall intention and design. Curious why limit it to alcohol only? Couldn't this be used for any habit we'd like to break?
Nick Allen
@puneet_kohli great question! We may consider expanding to other habits, but for now there's a LOT to do to change the face of alcohol health 🙂
Naser Alubaidi
Love the concept! Would love to see it expanding beyond just alcohol! Congrats on the launch!
Nadya Khoja
@naser_alubaidi 👀 step by step, curious what would you track?
Nadya Khoja
@naser_alubaidi @benjamin_couture I need to work on that next. Another is sugary drinks too
Joanna L.
This product looks great and i'm excited to give it a try! Wondering if this is supported on smart watches? That's where I track most of my health activity
Nick Allen
@joanna_lu_ not yet, but integrations are definitely on the roadmap in 2023. Check it out and let us know what you think, and we'll keep working on making even better every day 🙂
Nadya Khoja
@joanna_lu_ thanks for the support! Your feedback is also very valuable :D
Stephanie Cruz
Avoiding poor decisions, starting with the first one: one less drink at a time—great mission! Excited to see where the team takes this, congrats on the 🚀!
Nick Allen
@jaynecrews exactly! Intentional drinks can be a positive thing, but it's those extra unneeded ones that we're targeting. Check it out, we'd welcome your feedback on what we've built so far!

Eugene Woo
The app is great - you don't have to go cold turkey, just a bit more mindful
Ian Andersen
Thanks @wooyi. That's exactly right, for most people just being more mindful or cutting back a bit is incredibly helpful, and can lead to a new outlook on how alcohol fits into their lives. Appreciate you checking us out.
Nadya Khoja
@wooyi All good things in moderation ;)
Jonathan Gans
This is a really cool idea! I love the fact that you're focused on improving habits without requiring sobriety or making people feel bad for not being fully sober.
Ian Andersen
Thanks @jonathan_gans1. Removing shame, guilt, and the pressure to quit entirely is core to our philosophy, so I really appreciate the comment. Reducing alcohol by a bit, or simply building healthier habits like rotating in more water or not drinking before bed, can have big positive impact!

I asked chatgpt about your idea, “It sounds like a potentially interesting and useful startup idea. Many people may be interested in cutting back on their alcohol consumption or developing healthier habits related to alcohol use, but may not want to completely abstain from drinking. A app that helps users track and plan their alcohol intake and provides coaching on mindfulness and moderation could be a helpful tool for these individuals. It's also a good idea to make the app available on both iOS and web/SMS platforms, as this will make it more accessible to a wider audience.” I then asked for a bit more negative input that might actually be of value “It's important to consider both the potential benefits and potential drawbacks of any startup idea. One potential concern with an alcohol planning, tracking, and coaching app that focuses on moderation rather than sobriety is that it may not be suitable for individuals who have a more severe alcohol use disorder or who have experienced negative consequences as a result of their alcohol consumption. In these cases, complete abstinence from alcohol may be the most appropriate and safest course of action. It's also important to consider the potential risks associated with any app that promotes alcohol use, such as the potential for increased harm due to binge drinking or irresponsible behavior. It would be important for the app to include appropriate disclaimers and warnings, and to provide resources and referrals for individuals who may need more intensive support for their alcohol use. It would also be important for the app to ensure that it is in compliance with any relevant laws and regulations regarding the promotion and sale of alcohol.”

This is amazing!! Honestly, very well thought out support mechanism to help people reach their goals. Peer pressure, social obligations, and just the stresses of life can be tough to navigate on one's own. Great work!
Nick Allen
@jbear36 exactly.. there are a ton of reasons and triggers to drink all around us. We hope to be the friend in your pocket to help push back on the temptation, and keep drinking 100% on your terms.
