The Best Way to Publish a Book.

Paperback by Tablo — Publish in eBook & Paperback to every bookshop in the world
36

Tablo is an online publishing platform where you can write, connect with readers, and self-publish in eBook & paperback to nearly every online & physical bookshop in the world.

Creating and publishing a real book with Tablo is as easy as publishing a blog. You can write or upload a document, pick a theme and, with the click of a publish button, your book will be available on Amazon, the iBooks Store, Booktopia, and nearly 40,000 physical bookshops like Barnes & Noble and Readings. It's the largest distribution network available to independent authors, and the simplest way to publish.

Paperback is enabled by a global print-on-demand network that will list your book as in-stock with every retailer, then print and dispatch each copy the moment it's purchased from the closest location to the customer within a few days (there are over 20 printers spread around the world). This means the book you've created online will be available in paperback almost everywhere, with no overheads and no inventory. You'll even ship with Amazon Prime.

Writing and sharing on Tablo is free, with distribution starting at $99/year.

Hello Product Hunt! Ash here from Tablo. We're really excited to be introducing the new Tablo, with eBook & paperback publishing to nearly every online & physical bookshop in the world. The goal for us has been to make publishing a real book as easy as publishing a blog. Being able to write something online, click publish, and buy it in paperback from nearly any local bookshop is an experience that still takes my breath away. This product is the culmination of about three years of work, which started with a breakthrough we made in a simple Word Document conversion that lets you drop in a file, and our software reads through the book to learn your structure and create a fully typeset book with a working table of contents. The past year has then seen us flat out establishing our distribution network, negotiating print relationships, and designing the simplest possible publishing experience for authors. The result: you can write or drop in a file, click publish, and your real book is available almost everywhere. I'd be delighted to share any insights and answer any questions. Our CTO @alexeckermann is also here to talk more on the technical side. You can also read our full announcement on Tablo here: https://tablo.io/ash/weve-launch...

On-demand printing of books has to be the most necessary development for independent writers since... dare I say: 'the internet'? Seriously, this is a game changer. 👏👏👏👏👏

Great UI. Congrats on the launch! I currently use Amazon's own Createspace and Amazon KDP for publishing on-demand paperback books. What's your competitive advantage?

Gorgeous UX and the choice of Dante as the text font is amazing. One really WANTS to write. Beautiful job.

Pros:

Beautifully done.

Cons:

Can;t think of any right now.

I've been a fan of Ash for quite some time, having been an avid follower of his PhotoGuides.net series and then tracking his transition into Tablo.

Tablo is without a doubt one of the main disruptive forces in the literary world, something we haven't seen since the advent of Amazon in its early days.

This next big step will no doubt solidify Tablo, Ash and his team as one of the most exciting and 'must watch' startups of 2018.

Pros:

Incredible reach, simple process, reasonable price for small and big authors alike

Cons:

None

This made my day. Thank you Ollie for your support over the years, it really does mean a lot!

I expect huge blogging platforms like Medium to be trying to establish partnerships with you quickly. This is very well-conceived and I think your pricing structure is incredibly sound. Any service that helps keep the book industry alive is win-win in my opinion. Congratulations!

Been following Ash on Twitter (PhotoGuides) for many years now, and while I'm not getting that much photography advice anymore (hint hint), his journey with Tablo has been a great one to watch. Wishing him the best with the latest update, really helping many accomplish their dream of having a physical book published. @Photoguides, any thought to perhaps venturing into hardback full image books in the future? I'd love to publish photography books!
Ash Davies
@plambey Thank you Patrick! These days most of my photography lives on my iPhone. I am currently writing a new edition of my PhotoGuides photography book which, naturally, will be published in paperback using the new Tablo. Interestingly we do have the capacity to print in hardcover and in full colour using our network, and provide this same level of PoD access to retailers. To help us mange the launch we made the call to stick with one format of book (perfect-bound paperback with creme paper) which aligns with the majority of our fiction/non-fiction authors but, as we get into a rhythm, I'm sure we'll start to open up a select few publishing options for books like this as well.

This review is long, but it describes a long, painful and disappointing process working with Tablo, an online publishing platform with the headquarter in Australia. I started working with Tablo to get my cookbook published. I saw that they were a new-ish start up, but decided to take the risk anyway. At first, they were very communicative and helpful. I decided to sign up for their $500 hardcover publishing plan. After I paid the bill is when everything went downhill. In the 6-7 months between paying them and terminating my contract with them, they were exceptionally difficult to get ahold of. They did not answer my emails for days, sometimes for weeks. Twice I had to message their Twitter account to get a response. They kept telling me that my emails hadn’t come through because they were using Intercom to manage client communications. I asked for their direct emails to avoid that problem, but that did not help improve their responsiveness. After I said I would stop working with them, Ash assigned a dedicated rep to me, who made effusive promises at the end of every email that I could email him anytime, day or night, and he would always respond, but the old pattern continued. When I received the proof copy of my book, the quality was not acceptable. Aside from the pages being way too thin, it was badly cropped: pages that should have been full bleed had white borders and the spine was misaligned. On other pages, edges were cut off. I asked Tablo what the proper bleed settings should be and they told me one thing, and in a different email told me another. I adjusted the file, they said everything was good, and sent me a second proof copy. This one was even worse: still copped completely wrong, this time with large chunks cropped off and visible printers’ marks. All the steps in this process took a very long time because days or weeks would go by between emails. After the second proof, I asked them to terminate the contract. I never heard from them again. The problem is that to add insult to injury, they listed my book on Amazon and B&N without my consent and before I had seen the proof copies. Now I have to figure out how to get it removed since I was not the one who listed it and cannot remove it except by filing a copyright infringement claim.

@yana_b Hi Yana, I'm really sorry for this experience. I've learnt more about it, and I'm disappointed to learn about this. I have approved a full refund of your publishing plan, and we have removed your book from distribution, so it will come off stores. There has been a key issue with your book's compatibility on Tablo, and we'll need to learn more about it. It's not the normal standard that we hold ourselves to.
Mary Ann Olson
Mary Ann Olson I love this book publisher. Any problems you have during the publishing process, Ash get right on it and the finished product, to say the least is superb. Five stars all the way for Tablo. The best of the best.

When I was dissatisfied with Tablo's production of my novel, they simply stopped communicating with me. This was in October and I have not heard from them.
Ash Davies
@marian_birch Hi Marian, I'm sorry about this. I've just checked our chat history and I can't see that we've heard from you. All authors are protected by a print guarantee, where any defective copies can be refunded or reissued, so I'd welcome and encourage you to reach out at support@tablo.io :)
Ash Davies
@marian_birch Hi Marian, just politely following up on this, we're here to help with the book, but just need some more info first on what the issue might be :) You're welcome to reach out at support@tablo.io

Tablo Publishing is a brilliant self publishing company and the creators Ash and Damien are an exciting new generation of leaders making publishing a book available to everyone. I worked closely with Damien who suffered through countless hours, days and weeks of my changes, as he good natured-ly followed my new ideas, additions and multiple alterations. I can’t believe how easy he made the process and the confidence he gave to me. I highly recommend this extraordinary company because It’s the way to go if you want to be part of an exciting future as an author and are serious about getting your story out there.

Ive sent three messages in the last few weeks and never had even once got a reply!! My last royalties were back in March and it's now almost September.. So I feel that this company is no longer even paying royalties! The worst thing is that it is impossible to get a reply from them!
Ash Davies
@fiona_elizabeth Hi Fiona, I'm really sorry to see this. I just wanted to check, it looks like we connected a little while ago on Tablo and your royalties to date have been paid. Not sure if this was an old comment or if this is still an open issue, but we're here to help, do reach out ash@tablo.io if I can support

Tablo Publishing is a master-mind in the field of publishing. My journey with Tablo was a trail and worth my time. Ash and Demien are great at what they do. They truly demonstrated all they say the company is about - "making the process easy and stress-free for authors." I am glad I followed my guts to publish with them; they are professional, transparent, supportive and treat their clients with respect and dignity. I recommend Tablo to all and any upcoming author who is looking to see your work come alive. Their network of online and mainland distributors is massive. Tablo Publishing is a wonderful self publishing company that has allowed me to fulfil my dreams of becoming an author and I cannot recommend it highly enough! Ash and the team has made the writing and publishing experience incredibly easy, affordable and enjoyable. I did thorough research prior to publishing my cookbook and can confirm that no competitors or publishing houses offer the same level of distribution - and best of all, you get to keep ALL your royalties. Don't look any further than Tablo it is truly an extraordinary platform :) I look forward to writing my second book with you!

Tablo solved my self publishing problems. Which, as you know, is no mean feat. Getting an ISBN, publishing an ebook and a paperback, everywhere and then getting paid. The process was simple and Tablo has no hidden fees. I whole heartedly recommend them.

I happened upon Tablo quite per chance on social media. As it's been my dream to write a book about my sons whom I'd lost barely a year apart, I reached out to Tablo. Well, I was most certainly not disappointed as Ash and Damien have been nothing short of amazing in assisting me through the process. And they didn't simply assist me with the publishing aspect either. It being my first attempt at writing and publishing a book, I had many questions and they answered all of them - from start to distribution (that's where my book is at now). The most phenomenal part is that despite being highly professional, they made me feel warm, welcome and cared for. They're simply amazing and incredible. I'm super grateful that I'm in the good hands of Tablo and I'll recommend them trillion-fold to anyone reaching for their dreams.

As a first time author I was really nervous about the publishing industry and how to get started. Working with Tablo has been a delight. Their platform is easy to navigate and the software used once your document is loaded onto the site actually made editing and rewriting easier. I’ve found the support given at every stage of the process to be efficient and personalised. Having direct contact with Tablo via email and the on-site chat function makes a huge difference. No question was to small or too silly to be answered. I’ve felt that staff have gone above and beyond to make my publishing experience as easy as possible. The finished product is of a very high quality. The biggest draw card for me was retaining rights to my work and creative control. I have thoroughly enjoyed publishing my work with Tablo.
