@adityavsc Hi Aditya, the translation accuracy really depends on the language pair you are translating. It works best for European languages and might produce a (near)perfect result if translating simple, easy to understand content. That said, please keep in mind the quality of the machine translation also depends on the quality of the input content. So if your source text is written in slang or with many grammatical errors it might come out a bit wonky. But if your source content is written well, you can expect a fairly decent result in most cases. And this is where you come in - this tool is intended to post-edit a machine translation output and not to solely rely on one. We believe in the help that technology can provide us, but we are also aware of the limitations automation has compared to a human. BTW: the more you translate using Catapult, the more translation memory database you will build. And if you translate similar or repetitive content a lot, you previously stored translations will be pre populated already, thus improving the overall quality of the suggestions.

To answer your question about the difference between Catapult and DeepL: Catapult and DeepL are two different services addressing different audiences in the first place. But honestly, it is a fair question, so let us dive in! Comparing the two, Catapult enables you to build your private translation memory (TM). Now, for those who haven’t come across the term translation memory, it is a technology that “remembers your previous translations and stores them”. This way next time you are translating, Catapult will with help from TM offer sentence suggestions and significantly shorten the process. In addition, with Catapult, you can create your own glossary and have the access to Public TM. Above all, a document format is preserved. You also don’t have to copy and paste a text and there is no character limit.

@benoit_chambon @tamara_unetic And to be even more precise DeepL only provides you with a Machine Translation output. But Catapult allows you to translate entire documents, segment by segment, all the while retaining your file format. So once you're done reviewing the Machine Translation output, you get entire documents already formatted exactly as they were when you uploaded them. Basically, one only provides you with a translation, while the other is a full-fledged tool for translating documents, websites and other content.

It all depends on how many words you translate in a month. You subscribe for a package that has a limited number of words available. Every project you decide to translate with Catapult will count against your quota with total words found in the files. You can choose from 3 different pricing packages. Each package includes a limited number of words you can translate in any given month. We also have a free tier, if you just want to mess around a bit and try it out. You can find detailed pricing information on our website. 😊

Hi @anny_scott :) The suggested phrases are of good quality, as Catapult learns from professional translators and is therefore able to suggest better translations. It also depends on how well you build your translation memory, which is growing with each project. The suggest phrases in Catapult will get more and more accurate with every project.

How well would you say it translates discipline-specific languages? e.g. a scientific paper vs an art history book, vs a philosophy tract, which all might have their own peculiar vocabulary?

@g_bertrand Hi Bertrand, It really depends - just like with any Neural Network it might produce very good results but depending on the source text it might also be gibberish. I guess I would encourage you to try it for yourself and get back to me with your findings, we're always excited to get some user feedback.
