Hey Product Hunt, I'm Olav, co-founder of Tana! 👋 We're so excited to finally launch! For the past few years, we've been heads down building a workspace to reinvent how humans, teams, and computers work together. 🫠 The Problem Computers were supposed to be bicycles for our minds. Instead, they've become hamster wheels. We're drowning in busywork—context switching between documents, spreadsheets, endless chats, and loads of single-purpose apps. Our information is siloed and stuck, rarely showing up when we need it. Plugging AI into this mess will only make it worse (imagine the notification hell when AI agents join the party across all your different apps). The journey began with a prototype built to scratch our own itch, drawing from decades of experience in tech (including Grim's work on Google Wave for all you OGs out there). The prototype combined a knowledge graph, an outline editor, and Supertags—an innovative feature inspired by Smalltalk (one of the original OOP languages). It was rough, but we had never worked more effectively. ✨ What is Tana Tana is a new kind of workspace that makes interacting with computers flow naturally. The infrastructure is fundamentally different from most other information processing systems, so it might seem a bit foreign at first. These are three of the core pillars of Tana. A Knowledge Graph That Thinks Like You Do Most tools force you to organize information in rigid hierarchies. Tana's knowledge graph mirrors how your brain works—making it easy to connect and reuse information regardless of where it was stored. Mechanisms to connect and proactively resurface information Instead of manually hunting for information, you can set up customizable feeds that bring the information you need, where you need it. These are highly configurable and can use the graph structure to pull contextually relevant information (e.g. show discussion points for this specific meeting or this specific person) Supertags: From Chaos to Structure in Seconds Our most-loved feature turns unstructured information into structured data instantly. Inspired by object-oriented programming, Supertags let you define what type of information something is (e.g. a task, a project, a client, a bug etc). With this, you can build powerful workflows and AI agents that understand your information and know what to do with it. This is the tip of the iceberg. Tana has loads of powerful features, including a smooth outline editor, references to keep information in sync, backlinks to increase discoverability, powerful view options, commands, events, publish webpages, templates, and more. 🚀 How to get started Sign up at https://tana.inc/ for a free 14-day trial of Tana Plus. We recommend you start using Tana to replace your current notetaking and voice memo apps, and layer on additional use cases as you become familiar with Tana. If you want an easy start: Use voice memos to plan your day and capture ideas. If you're interested in the full power of Tana: We highly recommend you join our Slack community with over 20,000 members. They know Tana better than us and are constantly amazing us with the crazy powerful things they build with Tana. Would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and questions! 🙏 Special thanks (and much kudos) - A huuuuuuuuuge shout-out to our Tana community of early adopters. We love you and could never have built this without you ❤️

I've been using Tana for almost two years, and over this time more and more of the people around me have wondered where my superpowers came from. When they see Tana in action, they are instantly converted. Tana helps me bring order to chaos. It solved that nagging feeling in the back of my head that I was always forgetting *something*. Now, I simply capture my todos, discussion points, and goals in Tana (either on my laptop, or on-the-go using voice). They get automatically assigned, and pop up in the right context when I need them like magic. When I start any meeting, I am greeted by all the relevant content I could ever want. This is great during a meeting, but even better when you take the time every morning to prepare. I can assure you, if you come prepared, you are ten steps ahead of the curve. And Tana gets you there with minimal effort. My Tana process is super simple: - Every week, I go through all my open tasks and pick the ones I intend to do that week - Every morning, I pick what I want to do that day from my weekly tasks and go through each of my meetings (with the magic related content mentioned above) - Every month, I look at my Tana process and tinker with it. Adding, but mostly removing. Slowly, perfecting it step-by-step I think the last point illustrates the true magic of Tana. It is a shapeshifter. It will be exactly what you want it to be. If you are a tinkerer, it's a dream, but even if that scares you a bit, the amount of community templates and support on their Slack will bring you up to speed. I've tried to capture all I have learned about Tana in a single, free template called Orbital. See it in action here: https://youtu.be/zahSPVAmf_0

I really hope Tana carves out a big market share in this space. Because this space is ripe for disruption!
Hilde Dybdahl Johannessen
@sentry_co amen! We couldn't agree more with that assessment...
Felipe Fraga
@sentry_co This is so true. People deserve a tool as powerful as Tana!!
Cortex Futura
Tana has been my daily driver for a long while now, and I honestly can't think of using any other productivity tool this consistently for this long. I've been into "linked notes" style note-taking for about 15 years now, and there just isn't anything like Tana around that combines the affordances so effortlessly. Like the magical thing about Tana is that I can just...think, everything just flows out of me and into the app – and I can find it again, use it again, and build in the real world because I know I can trust Tana to have my back. And that was before they started baking AI as deeply into the product as they have now: with AI Chat, AI Commands, and AI Agents...my mind gets blown every day anew at how COOL THIS IS. Like there's zero context switching left – it all comes together in a single app. But, and this is important: Tana isn't just for the super nerdy hypergraphic people who write down everything every day...it provides great affordances to anyone who wants to be more productive – anyone where reading, writing, and thinking are part of the job. Can't tell you how excited for Tana to be accessible to everyone now. 2025 is going to be a good year for productivity!
Aurora
@cortexfutura I remember learning some core concepts in Tana thanks to your videos waaay back before joining. Thank you for making great content! It's amazing to see how Tana has evolved since then, especially with all the AI integrations you mentioned. Completely agree—2025 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for productivity!
Olav Sindre Kriken
@cortexfutura You are one of the Tana OGs. The content you make is extraordinary good, and your support has been amazing for us on our journey. Let's get this rocket going!
Cortex Futura
@aurorakb That's so cool to hear, thank you @aurorakb ! I'm hyped for this year :D
Tarjei Vassbotn
THANK YOU @cortexfutura! You have done so much for us and Tana. Your courses (https://www.cortexfutura.com/) are simply the best!
Jane Slack-Smith

@cortexfutura hey @Tana I too learnt Tana from you. As an engineer and early adopter I tried and tried but I’d loose how to find my people or books super tags and not know where to find them. I tuned out a year ago which now seems like But all the tags and mistake with what I read here with the Ai integration. I gather you have updated training?

I might need to go and start again. I stores so much information there I’d like to tap into it for my upcoming book. I have a community (exit the matrix with me) joining me in my book research of ancient wisdom and modern science to create an abundant life of your dreams so if I could work it out I can demo how they can use Tana

@francescod_ales thanks for all you do for us productivity addicts and note nerds! Looking forward to hearing what you have to say!
Oren Levitin
Wow! Great to see you here, guys! Tana has completely changed my life! I used to be obsessed with structuring thoughts, but I always hit a wall—I needed a space to freely play with ideas and connections. traditional note-taking apps added complexity instead of helping me think. Now, with Tana, I just map my brain, and I’m moving 5X faster in learning and building new things. Massive thanks to the @Tana team! 🔥 My main page in Tana https://drive.google.com/file/d/...
Hilde Dybdahl Johannessen
@tana @vladimir_levitin Thank you for the support and for sharing your main page in Tana! Super cool to see how different people set up Tana for their specific thoughts and workflows 🤩

@Tana @orenlevitin truly inspiring

Oren Levitin

@tarjeiv @hilde_dybdahl_johannessen just one critical request — please improve sharing feature.

I want to share my thought frameworks with friends and investors, but the current process is too cumbersome:

• Download HTML

• Upload to Framer

• Polish styles

It’s not that long, but I can’t keep doing it after every update. On the other hand it would be easy for you. The current public pages are awful—they don’t reflect the hierarchy of the structure I’m creating, which undermines the whole idea of Tana.

This is a critical point that stops me from aggressive promoting of Tana😅

Hilde Dybdahl Johannessen

@orenlevitin we totally agree! Can't give you an exact timeline, but quite a bit of work has been done on sharing with the hierarchy and structure—so hopefully you won't have to live with that cumbersome sharing process for long.

Gokul
I've genuinely enjoyed using Tana quite a bit (switched over from Workflowy). I wanted a tool that marries Workflowy's outliner simplicity with Notion's structure + some tools like tagging, dates, etc. Tana does this arguably complex orchestration fairly well. I hope they can improve their iOS/Android apps though (it's *maddening* to not be able to edit on mobile / add stuff easily). Best wishes to the Tana team!
Hilde Dybdahl Johannessen
@gokulns Thank you so much for your support and totally get your feedback regarding mobile! We just launched a new Android app (https://play.google.com/store/ap...) and recently shipping editing on iOS (still early access). You can enable editing as an Early Access feature on iOS by going to the "Manage" tab, and toggle Early Access features on to test it. You can download the latest version from App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ta.... Hopefully that helps a bit!
Tarjei Vassbotn
So cool to hear @gokulns! Both Grim and me used Workflowy from way back. It's an amazing tool!
Tarjei Vassbotn
Tarjei (one of the Tana founders) here with simple a pro-tip: Reusable Checklists! With SuperTags, you can quickly create checklists for ANYTHING - employee onboardings, hiking trips, on-call incidents and so much more. In fact, for our launch today, we created a #launch checklist that all team members uses to make sure we are all aligned and make sure our launch is successful.
Ev Chapman
@tarjeiv This is what I love about Tana. You can literally build or track anything with a simple Supertag.
Jeff Zhao
Kind of reminds me a little bit of Things 3 with some fancy new features. I'll be giving it a try... very picky about the kinds of tools I use for task management but the idea that managing the tens of things I have to track for myself every day can be less of a chore is very intriguing.
Brage Bang
@styrojeff Thank you for giving us a shot, Jeff! 🫶 If you have any questions or want help, tips and tricks, be sure to join our amazing community! https://tana.inc/community
Hilde Dybdahl Johannessen
@styrojeff We love picky users (it's the best way to improve a product)! So please try Tana and give us your candid feedback.
Olav Sindre Kriken
Thanks for giving us a shot, @styrojeff! Tana flexible and powerful, but different. Looking forward to your feedback 🙏
Matthew McKinlay
@styrojeff Yes! Great comparison Jeff! A user in our community actually built out a Things 3 style dashboard in Tana too! Check it out here- https://www.loom.com/share/890b9...
Jean Pierre Traets
Tana is a powerful tool that combines the best features of note-taking, outlining, and database applications. It uses a unique approach centered around nodes, which are nimble units of thought that can be easily assigned metadata and configured to display specific content. Everything in Tana is a node, which simplifies the structure of the application and makes it very flexible. Tana's outlining capabilities are exceptional, making it easy to organize thoughts in a bulleted list. The application's supertags feature is particularly noteworthy, allowing users to create templates for nodes that can be used in multiple places. This enables users to easily track information, and create searchable databases. Tana’s system is built to allow users to create their own systems for tasks, personal knowledge management, projects, and more. Tana is designed to minimize friction, allowing users to capture ideas without interrupting the flow of thought. It is ideal for people who want to move between free-flowing thoughts, collaboration, and structured data. The user interface is clean, calm, and aesthetically pleasing, further enhancing the user experience. The Tana community is friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive. The leadership is actively involved, listening to user feedback and working to improve the application. Tana is rapidly evolving, with new features being added regularly. Tana’s flexible tools allow users to build custom workflows without requiring programming expertise. The AI integration amplifies the ability of those systems by processing links and auto-tagging. The application is useful for both personal and professional use, allowing users to merge their worlds into one cohesive graph. It is used by builders and managers in tech teams. Jean Pierre

TL;DR — Believe the hype: Tana is a game-changer. The future is now, strap in. ——— “The great river of Tana... the Tana River... Tana... where your thoughts can flow like water...” this was the pitch 2+ years ago when I stumbled upon the alpha version of this app and it's mission to ‘reinvent how humans and teams and machines work together...’ yada yada yada... “Yet another Workflowy clone...” I smugly thought to myself as I joined the Slack group and started tinkering around in the app, thinking to myself that at that point I had seen it all... Boy was I wrong... 😏 For 10 years I would come to Product Hunt and try out every hot new outliner or note-taking app that hit the launch page to see if they could pull me away from Workflowy... And after every single app (I tried them ALL), I returned to Workflowy — until Tana. 💥 The first thing Tana did was figure out something no other outliner had managed to figure out, and they call them SUPERTAGS — it's the functional marriage of a relational database and an infinite outliner — and it's incredible. Said another way, it's like if Airtable and Workflowy had a baby, it'd be Tana. 🤯 Think of supertags as merely the title of a table in a database, and their related fields as merely the columns (or attributes) that you'd expect to find in the table. Now imagine: every sentence, every “node,” can become a record in this table (the rows), simply by adding a hashtag, a supertag — “John Doe #person” — that's it. John Doe is in the person table. It's so frictionless you feel like your computer is made of melted butter. 🧈 Despite Tana being an outliner at it's core, you don't need to worry about the “tree,” or hierarchy, or organization at all, because of the next fundamental innovation Tana brings: SEARCH NODES. Search nodes allow you to build emergent structures that evolve as your needs change, whereby you can define an organization structure that is always up-to-date. A list of all #person nodes that updates on the fly, regardless of where in your graph you add that node... More melted butter. 🧈 🧈 And that would be enough on its own, but Tana also makes AI a first class citizen. You'll find integrations with AI at the core of the UX, thoughtfully integrated in ways that demonstrate the team is not just catching the AI hype wave, they're actually the force behind it — bringing easy-to-use and easy-to-build tools into the experience that finally start to give weight to the promise of AI. 🧈 🧈 🧈 Then there's the entire world of COMMANDS that also exist within Tana, which allows you to program all types of unique ways to interact with your data right down to the field level, allowing you to templatize your entire workflow and build entire apps that function around any concept or supertag. IE: fill in the director and cinematographer's names to a #movie when I add it, or a research a cafe #recommendation that a #person shares with me... all automatically. 🧈 🧈 🧈 🧈 Indeed though, one of the most delightful things about using Tana in alpha and beta these past two years has been the TEAM. Software is made by humans, and these humans are fantastic. The team is thoughtful, critical, humble, inquisitive, and of course very talented. They truly do listen to the community, not just in terms of direction and roadmap, but to the little things. They're not afraid to take critical feedback and grow with it. They're not against doing the hard thing (again and again) until they get it right. They admit when they miss the mark and they overachieve when they return to hit it. 👯 And finally, the COMMUNITY surrounding this app is thriving. Active daily. Fired up about helping others succeed. Nonjudgemental. Supportive of any arrangement of letters you show up identifying as. Came out in masse to support the launch. And. And... We all can't wait to meet YOU, dear Product Hunter, and answer all of your questions, and get you as excited about Tana as we all are! 👋 Tana is precisely 361 km ahead of the pack right now. It's true: Tana IS reinventing how humans, teams, and computers work together. And it's clear the team is not slowing down this year, so LFG! 🚀

Martin Nordli-Mathisen
I'd been struggling finding a note-taking app for me for a long time, and randomly overheard a conversation of someone talking about a small startup called Tana on the train in to Oslo one morning. I joined the community later that day, and by the weekend I had watched at least 10 videos on Tana, and bought an online course for an application for the first time in my life. It was the first time I've felt that an application really resonated with how I want to capture information. Tana has since developed into a powerful tool for me in my professional career - I'm not a PKM guru or feel the need to take notes for my daily life, but I genuinely believe that if you are a working professional and not using Tana you might be doing yourself a disservice. More so if you work with specific accounts and have routine contact with your customers. For me - it was all about tasks and to-dos, which Tana does like no other. Tana will grow with you - and I spend a good chunk of time thinking of how I can do things differently. But once you get the SuperTags set up, its so intuitive, and I know I have barely scratched the surface. Looking forward to seeing what's in store for the future - and big congratulations to the team!
Odin Urdland
@martin_nordli_mathisen That is so great to hear Martin! Overhearing-on-train is a super cool story of you finding out about us. It's really exciting to be building tools that people love and use in their life in such a way. ^_^
Brage Bang
@martin_nordli_mathisen Thanks for a thoughtful review 🫶 I also stumbled across Tana back in the day and then it slowly took over my knowledge work from client management to long-form writing! This team (which I feel incredibly grateful to be a part of) is going to the MOON!
Martin Nordli-Mathisen
@odinu I remember distinctly they said it was "a Norwegian version of Notion" and looking back that was massively underselling Tana's capabilites!
Ev Chapman
@martin_nordli_mathisen what a truly interesting way to hear about Tana! Love that story. I agree - any knowledge worker would be crazy not to be using Tana
Tarjei Vassbotn
Wow @martin_nordli_mathisen, thanks for sharing the story and thanks for your support!

Phil Morle
I love this product and I love this team. I found Tana in the early days of beta when notebooks had failed me, OneNote failed me, Evernote failed me, Notion failed me, Roam failed me... you know what I mean. I couldn't recall anything. My information space was vast and these tools were too flat to manage what I was putting in. Tana's supertags collected my information my way. Contextually relevant searches placed this information where and when I need it. I never drop out of my flow. Meetings magically appear from my calendar, tagged how I want them to be tagged. I drop tasks in the workflow of a meeting (for example) and retrieve them in the context that I can best get them done. In a project page, in a weekly review, when I have 5 minutes spare. Now with native AI, I auto transcribe meetings, send voice notes to my tana to magically collect where I need them, build agent based tools, designed to work for me with the information that gathers around me. And why do I love the team? I've never seen such a perfectly executed community. I feel like this product is built for us.
Aurora
@phil_morle1 Phil, it’s always inspiring to hear your take on Tana—you’ve been with us from the start, and your insights always remind me why we’re building this. Can’t wait to hear you speak at the live event later. Grateful to have you as part of this journey—you’re a true OG in every sense!

Tana is a knowledge powerhouse! In Tana I was able to build the perfect digital twin for every meaningful area of my life: → Environment for all my research work → Polymath hub where knowledge cross-pollinates organically → Business OS where I manage every aspect of my business (projects, products, CRM, ...) AI & Agents run on my knowledge graph, making them 10x more useful. Tana is an absolute game-changer. Finally on PH! Strongest upvote ever🚀

Thanks @parham_shafti! You stand out for your ability to give excellent technical feedback...as well as finding an incredible amount of different ways to ask 'when are you going to ship mobile' 😀
Ed Nico
Hey Tana Team. Congratulations on this huge milestone - one of many, I hope. Anyone who has followed me online will know I have tried an inordinate amount of note-taking/PKM apps and, at the same time, posted my fair share of criticism and complaints (and praise, on occasion). But one thing is certain: Tana is one of the most powerful note-taking apps I have tested. The ability to quickly capture information, categorise it without losing context, and retrieve it through powerful queries and searches means you have everything at your fingertips. The possibility of creating a web of information through backlinks, seeing your content in different views or surfacing what you need at the touch of a button is second to none. The recently released mobile apps mean that we can take our notes with us on the go (although there is still quite a bit of work needed to make the mobile experience flawless). On top of it all, the team behind it is incredibly passionate and has great ideas (there are things in Tana that I did not know had even been invented). The ability to work on so many fronts while listening to user feedback, and incorporating this into Tana, is phenomenal. There is no denying that there are a few additional features that I would like to see in Tana, but I would certainly not hold back from recommending it. If you are serious about note-taking, information retention, and, more importantly, retrieval, I would give Tana a shot and see if it can elevate you to the next level. Looking forward to seeing what the Tana team has in store for us next.
Hilde Dybdahl Johannessen
Thank you @ednico! Not only for the support now, but for the continuous feedback. This launch is just the beginning and we're really looking forward to future milestones and launching those missing features 🔥
Tarjei Vassbotn
Thank you @ednico ! With the launch and mobile (minus Android) out of the way, expect to see "additional features" coming more often!
Germán Merlo
Hey Olav! It looks really awesome cause team work can define the company boundaries. If teams can work properly, then you'll be able to reach all the goals you set as founder. Hope everyone see the same and wish you all the best here!
Tarjei Vassbotn
Thanks a lot @german_merlo1 ! Tana for Teams is one of the areas you can expect to see a lot of great stuff coming
