Telegram 4.4 - Live Locations, Media Player and Localization platform is the new update from the Telegram team. You can broadcast your current location to any chat or group chat in real time. This is useful when you are on your way to an appointment or are trying to coordinate with friends at a large event.

It's simple, beautiful and fast. What's not to love?

Pros:

The desktop app! I switched phones (Nexus 6P to 3310) and the only messaging app I use is Telegram. Plus, the desktop app has themes!

Cons:

I want a sticker store with ALL the stickers. Why can't all my friends be on Telegram instead of Whatsapp?

Been using Telegram for around 2 years!

Pros:

Simple but featureful UI. All apps are native (my CPU thanks the devs)

Cons:

Group calls, definitely would be cool

It's time to add the QR code scan to add friend feature

@producthunt this field should be optional

Pros:

Simply the best and leanest messaging experience. I mean look at FB messenger overview screen - It's like a cluster fuck.

Cons:

There is so many hidden features in Telegram. I never get to explore them all. Hard to find out.

Love telegram! I wonder how the audio feature could tie in with sharing podcast episodes.. would love to see future functionality related to podcasting..

I've only just started using Telegram (to join @marckohlbrugge's https://wip.chat/ group) and it's been a good experience so far. Such a buzz of activity in the group and Telegram seems more fully featured than Whatsapp with the ability to use bots. The fact it's "free forever" still worries me as it means we're the product, but that seems to be the status quo with these sort of apps. Live Locations should be cool for the makers in the group to see who's nearby.
Arun
@marckohlbrugge @fredrivett I have been sharing live location with friends and family members using Google Maps' live location sharing. Telegram will replace this now.
Kristian Freeman
@fredrivett another member of that group here 😄 Telegram is really incredible! This is my first time using it, and the bot integration is impressive. I’ve set up a couple myself in a matter of hours, and they’ve been running without issue now for a week or so 👍
Niels Philbert
@fredrivett I'm a heavy user of Telegram and find peace in them being a not-for-profit company. So I do not consider myself the product. https://www.telegram.org/faq#q-h...

The #1 messenger app on the market.

Fast and secure, a lot of cool features.

Cons:

Everything is great

Mohammad Kermani
I really liked the both live locations and new media player! I wish people know more about Telegram, I use WhatsApp sometimes, in compare to Telegram (in short) "WhatsApp sucks"
Pascal Andy
Humm privacy was the big point. Not fan of this feature.

Pros:

A lot of cool feature

Cons:

Still have two desctop clients for Mac which is kind of confusing

Arun
Telegram has already replaced many apps, and with Telegram 4.4 having support for live location sharing, so long Google Maps' live location sharing!

Have been a Telegram user for a long time! Telegram is just killing it with new features. Best messenger app hands-down!

Also waiting for video calls with desktop sharing to finally abandon all other messengers :)

Pros:

Media Player feature is a great addition for the awesome messenger. Love to use it.

Cons:

It's a pain to use current simple list of all contacts, bots and channels. Some organization is absolutely needed for this mess.

On my phone right now I have Line, WeChat, Kakao Talk, Facebook Messenger, Slack and Telegram. Telegram is hands down my favorite.

Pros:

Interface is clean

Link previews are second to none

Sticker system rocks

Bots are very powerful

File transfer size is amazing

Cons:

Would love to see group calls and video chat

Animated stickers would be great

Catching up on huge groups is a pain

Looks like Telegram is becoming more and more popular!

The best messaging app ever. I use it both for business and personal communications.

Great new about live locations, @durov! Looking forward for allowing bot to track live locations...
Elies Campo
@nikita_martynov The new Bot API v.3.4 supports live locations: https://core.telegram.org/bots/a...

@elies @nikita_martynov Hi Nikita, I am the maker of the @BlitzyBot and I can confirm you that live location work also in bot API, because I implemented it in my bot (it matches people basing on location and needs.) If you need, I am available for some assistance, actually the official doc doesn't go really deep with this topic. Contact me via PH or reply to this msg. And if you would like to try the Blitzy bot with your friends that would really make me happy :) it's fun and useful ;) Have a nice day Antonio

Live location is really useful while bot platform can be improved if bot will be able to track live locations

Pros:

Great fast live location sharing

Cons:

Bot should be able to track live locations

@nikita_martynov @elies @talyuk Yes, they can :) Bots will receive updated live locations as an `edited_message` in the Update object https://core.telegram.org/bots/a...

Now in the settings I can turn on the Russian language. But I will not do it :))
Robert Melkonyan
I don't really like Pavel Durov, but his products were always great. Telegram has not the same user amounts as Viber or WatsApp, but it's better than both. Also, it is the only messenger that keeps your info safe, not selling it to anyone, even to the governments of Russia.
Yauhen Razhko
@melkonyanrob how do you know?)))
Robert Melkonyan
@yauhen_razhko Roskomnadzor (a federal organisation in Russia, like CIA) charged them 800.000 Russian Rubles ($13.000) for not giving any information about its users to the Russian Federation.
