Wow. So what is the limiting factor to how much more Tesla can increase the speeds?
Joshua Dance
@joe_blau haha. Yes. :) But what kind? Is it the tires losing friction as they transition from static to dynamic? Is it the heat generated by the batteries dumping energy into the motors? Is it the torque overcoming the shear force of the axle? I would love to know more about what is stopping them from going faster!

0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds is like, faster than Usain Bolt ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Niv Dror
and 2.5 seconds is as fast as fast as a Bugatti Veyron ($2.5M) and a Porsche 911s ($188k) -- wow per @panzer tweet: https://twitter.com/panzer/statu...
Ben Tossell
@nivo0o0 @panzer naahhhh 911 can't do 2.5s ๐Ÿ˜Š - the 918 Spyder can do 2.2s, LaFerrari also less than 2.5s always curious why companies claim to be the 'best/most efficient/fastest' - if its not true? (maybe wording is production car somehow qualifies it?)
Joshua Pinter
@bentossell @nivo0o0 @panzer They clarified it on their blog post: "The Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode is the third fastest accelerating production car ever produced, with a 0-60 mph time of 2.5* seconds. However, both the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder were limited run, million dollar vehicles and cannot be bought new."
Ben Tossell
@joshuapinter @nivo0o0 @panzer yeh I thought there would be a technicality that would cover it :)

"While those cars are small two seaters with very little luggage space, the pure electric, all-wheel drive Model S P100D has four doors, seats up to 5 adults plus 2 children and has exceptional cargo capacity." Driving a 918 spyder and going 0 to 60 for 2.5 sec would be fun, not so much in a four door sedan with 5 adults, 2 children and some luggage.... I'm a big car enthusiast, but I don't understand why someone would want to do 0 to 60 for 2.5sec in a Tesla. I personally would never use that driving around Los Angeles. I would be much more interested if the Tesla hit the 1000 miles range with one charge.

Elon promised Tesla news today and here it is!! The Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode is the third fastest accelerating production car ever produced, with a 0-60 mph time of 2.5* seconds. However, both the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder were limited run, million dollar vehicles and cannot be bought new. While those cars are small two seaters with very little luggage space, the pure electric, all-wheel drive Model S P100D has four doors, seats up to 5 adults plus 2 children and has exceptional cargo capacity. There was also coverage on Bloomberg and also on Recode and on TechCrunch

2.5 seconds to 60 is quicker than most motorcycles, too. This is going to upset a few crotch rocket riders. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li...

I want this car!

Starts at $134,500... Starting a savings fund today.

Remember when like 5 years ago, the Roadster was just dipping under 4 seconds? How times have changed! Really impressed.

Sadly I will only be able to afford a model 3

Another nail in the coffin of ICE. At some point the romance has to end. Personally I could care less about the sound my engine makes (the less the better). Will be interesting to see how the legacy brands position ICE vs. electric in coming years. Ferrari could be the last man standing.
Sam Sabri
@paul_shustak even then Ferrari only stands with a small community - those that can afford it. This is a bigger nail in the coffin for car makers who make "affordable" performance cars like Ford, BMW, etc.

Tesla delivers huge value for the money, BUT the upfront is high without the tax credit. I will be looking for a used one in the $35k-$40k price range myself.

Pros:

It's the best all around package from Tesla.

Cons:

The Price. Until the other exotic cars catch up, its one of a kind.

Amazing.
