I always feel bikes need more reflectors or lights. It really sucks that it is black because it is already difficult to see a bicycle blowing through stop signs and traffic lights as it is while driving an automotive.
This wheel alone weigh 9kg. It's heavier than my road bike and I can't imagine cycling with it turned off even on a flat road. Or are you suppose to turn it on all the time?
Hey @howiec, you can ride with the wheel powered off without issue, though most user's do elect to ride with it on. We have three power levels to choose from depending on the assist you're wanting on your ride and a range of 30 miles. Impact on turning radius due to weight is only marginally impacted at speeds below 20mph.
This looks awesome, really like the approach of making it super super easy to retrofit your existing bike.
I remember there were some issues with front hub ebikes deforming the forks from the stress, do you guys have any experience with that? Any recommendations on forks/bikes?
How does all that extra weight up front affect handling?
Is it possible to change the rim on the wheel? Hitting a big pothole and putting a kink in the rim would be a bit tragic if you then had to replace the entire unit.
Hey @charlesmsmart thanks for the comment. We incorporated a torque arm into the wheel design to alleviate the fork/dropout issue you're referring too. The dropouts on most bikes are quite weak, so the additional torque from a front wheel hub motor needs to be redirected higher on the fork, where it is much stronger and can handle the additional stresses. We've not had any issues with dropouts or fork stress. The additional weight only has a marginal impact on handling at normal riding speeds. Above 20mph you're turning radius will be wider, but most users report little impact on daily rides. And lastly on our current models it is not possible to change the rim. However, the tire and tube are completely interchangeable, just like a traditional bike wheel. Please don't hesitate to reach out with more questions!
Hey @andreasduess, not quite! There are some major differences between our systems. Electron Wheel is a front wheel replacement which doesn't require tools to install, you always retain use of your rear gear cluster, and our price is $300 less.
Hey @travis_murdock, we offer a 26" and 700c size wheel to work with different styles of bike. Most mountain bikes and cruisers use a 26" wheel, and most road bikes, city, and hybrid bikes use a 700c size wheel. The specs for both sizes of electron wheel are identical.
Hey @cemedericarak, no regenerative braking on our FWD system as the energy captured would be marginal. But we do have a 30 mile range, three power modes to toggle between to maximize battery, and you can certainly ride with the wheel off if you prefer. We also have a rapid charging option which will give you a full charge in just 2-3 hours :)
Hey @neil_borden, we've engineered two loop throughs on both sizes of wheel to allow the user to lock their wheel separately from their bike. We're also working on some anti-theft features to be integrated into our app.
