Thimble.io is a subscription-based curriculum and live video platform that teaches kids electronics and computer science through weekly classes taught by experienced technology teachers. Hands-on materials are shipped to subscribers every 3 months.
I launched Thimble on Kickstarter almost five years ago as a simple STEM kit business to help kids get into tech. I was a tutor, teacher, and college admission officer looking for ways to push boundaries in education. We slowly broke into the space but made a few mistakes along the way. However, we kept going.
With remote learning now being an integral part of teaching, we slowly broke into to the homeschool market - working with traditional homeschoolers and tech-forward families looking to inspire their kids, provide real-time instruction, and balance their screen time with meaningful hands-on activities. So we relaunched Thimble to continue making education accessible from home.
Thimble is a subscription-based curriculum and live video platform that teaches kids robotics, computer science, and game design through weekly classes taught by experienced technology teachers. Hands-on materials are shipped to subscribers every 3 months.
At Thimble, kids:
- Receive quarterly projects to build robots, drones, + other electronics
- Take weekly build-along classes with seasoned tech teachers
- Access on-demand lessons (pre-recorded videos, step-by-step guides)
- Sign up for office hours with teachers for troubleshooting projects
- Engage with other students from around the globe
My vision: to break the barrier into tech for kids and for anyone out there who wants to consider it as a potential career path. This is a community for curious minds and those who know (and don't yet know) about their passion to understand the world around them through engineering, tech, and design.
