With this new logged-in web experience, you can post, view your feed, and interact with threads. We know you’ve been waiting… we’re working hard to bring everything you love from mobile to web.
Ok — this could be the start of the continuation of the mass migration from X (considering Elon is deprecating the Block feature on his network), another well-timed launch from Meta!
@chrismessina I think Elon deprecated the block feature because people where blocking blue-badgers as a protest. Reminds me a bit when china bans white paper because people were using white paper to say nothing as a protest. So we are seeing where this is going with the one supreme ruler ethos etc.
@sentry_co Here it’s a choice between Elon and Zuckerberg, both of them making solo decisions for the platforms. Either one you choose isn’t great, Zuckerberg has a worse history.
@chrismessina On my opinion block isn’t a big feature to give up the platform for, Threads had a good marketing campaign and growth initially but most people haven’t got to stick to it. If you switch to threads, you’re changing one platform with a super rich CEO to another platform with also a super rich CEO.
@maxdo So I really don’t see a reason for threads to exist in the current market and to why people would move there over twitter and other alternatives. Unless musk completely screws it up. Is there a good reason and why?
Thumbs up: Snappiness, low latency in general (except with posting)
Can improve: Remove modal-style reply so that one can see the full thread and optionally scroll.
Also, WTH is up with all the spam / clearly ChatGPT-generated comments here? Is it really that lucrative to game PH?!? (yes, I've reported the half-a-dozen+ crap comments)
Threads really looking like a product born dead, visually like an instagram fork without images or reels pushed onto you... I migrated to nostr instead, no ads or instagram integrations 😌
@maxdo on the contrary: it looks like a highly usable minimalistic interface modern product. Ready to spread its wings. With a virtually zero level of toxicity. A pleasure to use.
@paulbalogh_line21 Interesting opinion but I don’t think it reflects reality, for this kind of app there’s nothing to use, it’s made to consume information content creators share and I think it’s a matter of time before they start showing ads there if it’ll still be alive.
@maxdo so you are not talking about "Threads" you are talking about "this kind of app". What kind? Twitter-like? (i.e. social media based on ads)? Of course they will show some ads in the future, but Twitter sorely needed competition. Now they have it.
@paulbalogh_line21 I wasn’t referring to that, I’m personally spending most time in what Jack Dorsey created after twitter, nostr protocol. It’s early there but it’s fun being a part of something better that’s being created, and it can be more than a social media network. + you’re earning bitcoin while being active there, what can you get from Threads?
@paulbalogh_line21@maxdo Conversation that's friendly, fun, interesting, and generally free from toxicity.
Can't claim much of that for X nowadays, particularly if you happen to be a woman or part of a marginalized group, or just happen to say something critical about Musk and attract the frothing wrath of his stans.
