Tik Tok is a global video community powered by music. Whether it’s dance, free-style or performance, creators are encouraged to let their imagination run wild and set their expressions free. Designed for the new generation of creators, TikTok allows users to quickly and easily create unique short videos to share with friends and the world.

Let me know when it's available on Android. Until then, I'm out ;)

Not available in US store, not available in Russian store. "...originally launched in China as a lip-syncing app" it is still available in China* as a lip-syncing app. Great job, Product Hunt! *) ok, it's also available in Japan and New Zealand, but do we care?
Chen Pang
@woobinda Well, there's no reason to care about US store anyway. The target users are all in other Asian countries

The similarities to Musical.ly are obvious, and ironic considering the company that acquired Musical.ly also made Tik Tok. This app also reminds me of EU-based Dubsmash which launched a beta on Product Hunt 4+ years ago, which has since pivoted. Of course the hardest part with any mass market social app like this is long-term retention, which may be why its parent company is creating an ecosystem of apps not too dissimilar from the strategy most mobile social gaming companies take.

@rrhoover Agree with you 100% on the retention part. I'm not sure if the Musical.ly similarity is simply an on-boarding strategy or if there is a real aim to separate the Western app from the Chinese. 抖音 is more of a platform for 网红 (Internet celebrity) and wannabe 网红 in China rather than a Musical.ly clone. The concept doesn't really translate to the West in the sense that there's not really any equivalent user - so perhaps this is an attempt to carve out that niche after on-boarding users with a proven concept while allowing Chinese users to interact with Western content with a common language first (music). Very interesting that there's such a big attempt to go global with this app though.

@rrhoover The company acquired Musical.ly actually made three video apps and have been running them in parallel
