Hey team Todoist - As both a customer and a fan, this looks like an incredible update! I'm also very relieved you didn't launch this yesterday ๐Ÿ˜…

@johnonolan Thanks John! Haha, you did great yesterday ๐Ÿ˜

This is exciting. Is this out yet ? I don't see it or am I on a hold back experiment ?

It WAS my favourite task management app but from last 3 years itโ€™s going the Evernote and Omni Focus way. Feels like they were not able to digest their success. There is hardly any significant improvement to the app and became boring. They havenโ€™t delivered on the promises they did last year. In the time when free options like native OS todo apps, Microsoft todo, Google Task is getting better everyday where as TickTick, Sorted is moving ahead with super pace, It will not be a easy road ahead for them.

A lot of it reminds me now of Things3. Still Todoist is amazing
Amir Salihefendic
@niklausgerber Things 3 has a great UI, so we take that as a compliment! There are some comments regarding us copying Things 3, but if you look closer, you'll see that we use very different UX to accomplish different things. Even something like Dynamic Add is a natural evolution. We had the + Fab for the longest time, way before Things 3 added it. I think we were the first to use the + Fab in a todo app, and our core inspiration was our Android app via Google's Material Design.

But still no calendar view?
Amir Salihefendic
@suijkerwerk The calendar view is coming. We are also going to ship a boards view. Like we mention in our blog post, the objective of this release is to lay a strong foundation so we can extend Todoist with much more powerful features. https://doist.com/blog/todoist-f...
Dmitry Gorshkov
Congrats on successfully stealing Things's features. Shame!
Tim Raiter
Hm. I donโ€™t want to say that, but this looks exactly like Things 3, no?

It's no exaggeration that Todoist (along with Getting Things Done) changed my life. It's allowed me to focus on the things that matter in each moment and feel peaceful about my to-do list. This update looks and feels great. I'm particularly looking forward to using sections to reduce my need for nested projects! Great job @amix3k and the Doist team ๐Ÿ™Œ
Amir Salihefendic
@sgoudie Thanks, Sam! Hearing stories like these are a massive motivation for us. I should not take much credit on this as the team did most of the heavy lifting.

Well, this update is simply great. Love it. I used Todoist since 2010, closed 39'840 Tasks and reached a Karma of 58'480. But I have to say that this update is almost perfect. Mainly, I love the new sections and the new task view at a glance. What I would change: The design is are great - but I wonder about the inconsistency between iOS and macOS (Tags in day view is one example). What's missing: I often don't know which project a section is in - and unfortunately, you can't search for it in iOS or Mac. Besides, assigning a new task to a section via Inbox is too complicated. Especially on iOS. Well, that's high-level complaining. Because overall, this release has made Todoist the best task manager for my needs - again. There are still some bugs on the Mac/Web-Release. But I know this is normal (yes, I did report them already via email). I was using the BETA on iOS, and the BETA was almost free of bugs.
Amir Salihefendic
@daniel_wyss Thanks for the feedback, Daniel. We are not done iterating on this, and we take feedback very seriously. Also, with such a massive update, it's challenging to get everything right ๐Ÿ‘
Edvins Antonovs
It's awesome! My favourite todo app
Amir Salihefendic
@edvins_antonovs Thanks ๐Ÿ™

Hi Product Hunters ๐Ÿ‘‹ Over the last two years, the Todoist team has been meticulously rebuilding Todoistโ€™s foundation to help people get things done in a faster, more intuitive, and more reliable way. And itโ€™s finally time to share this new chapter with everyone. Announcing Todoist Foundations. ๐ŸŽ‰ Todoist Foundations is an inside-and-out update that introduces useful new features and adds polish to the ones you already use every day. * Divide and conquer your projects with new Sections. * See everything about your task at a glance with Task View. * Keep track of the little things with the Sub-tasks View. * Add tasks more easily with the redesigned Quick Add for mobile. * Easily add tasks wherever you need them with the Dynamic Add Button for iOS (Android coming soon). Todoist Foundations also introduce vital under-the-hood updates that make for the fastest, most reliable Todoist yet โ€“ and lay the groundwork for the more powerful features coming next, like Boards and Upcoming View. This update will be rolling out over the next 24 hours to every platform. Keep a lookout for it!
Dmitriy Dubovetzky
@amix3k Congratulations! I'm using Todoist over the past two years and really happy with it
Niklas Pivic
@amix3k I must say that this update isโ€”so far, for myselfโ€”a really nice one. I've found all of the features by simply checking for them myself and I am very impressed with how you have not only handled the user experience but also how everything is documented. Sweet. Thanks!
Terrance Kwok
@amix3k Psyched for this update! I was switching to do apps every month before finding ToDoist. Been a happy ToDoist user for the last 6 months ๐Ÿ˜€.
Jim Kleban
@amix3k loved finding this app, I especially like the clean design! Can't wait to try it more. As a lover of product management, I'm curious about how you could measure the success of Todoist as you introduce new feature offerings (aside from adoption numbers.) Do you track how often people use the app in a time window or after signup? I wonder whether there is a way to measure as a northstar how successful people are in completing projects with the help of Todoist and designing features with that in mind.
Jose Paul Martin
@amix3k Foundations update is fantastic. I only hope you'll bring a Calendar implementation so we can stick to using Todoist, rather than checking our calendar for slots.
