Too Good To Go — The #1 Anti-Food Waste App

Reduce food waste while getting a bargain at restaurants you love (or discover new restaurants you are going to love)! There's also an element of mystery because instead of ordering a specific dish, you order a "surprise bag" worth much more than the price.

Too Good To Go is launching in Chicago today but it's already in 8 other US cities and a bunch of cities in Europe and (I think) Canada. I'm a sucker for mystery grab bags and I hate wasting (especially food) so this app was made for me. I'm just surprised it hasn't been hunted already.

In the US, they are in NYC, New Jersey, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland, OR so far and plan on expanding to more cities soon.

Food-waste is a subject which I'm personally very passionate about. I saw a documentary some time ago which mentioned that 40% of all food goes to waste. So basically, all that water, all that energy into growing that food is just wasted. Upon that, the thrown away food gets taken to dumpsters where it slowly rots and produce Methane and other greenhouse gases which cause global warming. Every time I think about this, I'm left stupefied as to how we've arrived at this practice. --- I've two issues with this video and their website: - First, there's no real explanation what the app does and how it's helping this problem. - Second, there's no mention of actual stats and data regarding how successful this app has been in solving this problem. It's a fairly popular app on play store (10M+ downloads), so it would be nice to see some actual data on the efficacy of this app. --- Anyway, the name of the documentary is "Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story" and I'd recommend it to everyone. The filmmakers survive just on discarded food items for 6 months; you'll be surprised how much of fit-to-eat food is thrown away daily - from chocolate bars to vegetables and everything in between.

@bhch It's my fault, not theirs, that the video doesn't explain how the app works They do have videos that explain the app if you go to Google Play or the App Store, but I couldn't use those here. Their YouTube channel has lots of great videos about the food waste problem and things you can do about it (like zero-waste recipes) but they don't have any videos explaining the app. I decided to pick a video with an overview of the food waste problem rather than not include a video at all. And since it's not my app, I don't have any stats, but I do get the sense that they are sincerely trying to help with the food waste problem. It doesn't seem like greenwashing to me.

@christine_renee Sorry, but I didn't mean to imply any greenwashing. Just wanted to see some stats to gauge the efficacy of the app.
