Topology Eyewear uses face scanning to make custom-fit glasses directly from your iPhone. Upload a selfie and the the app makes a 3D model of your face. Then simply style your frames to suit your face shape and we'll make your glasses from scratch in San Francisco– RX lenses included.

I was wondering when 3d printed glasses for fit would come out! Looks cool.

@joshdance Quick Clarification: our custom eyewear frames are NOT 3D-printed, because 3D-printing produces expensive products that look and feel cheap. We've actually done the hard work of figuring out how to do one-off manufacturing of luxury eyewear using the exact same premium materials that customers expect at our price point: Italian Acetate and Stainless Steel. Don't get me wrong: 3D-printing IS a breakthrough manufacturing process, but I believe it is only well-suited for NON-aesthetic products (e.g. Aircraft parts, shoe orthotics, metal implants, etc). And yes, 3D-printing would certainly make our manufacturing challenges MUCH easier, but it wouldn't yield a product people actually want: customers demand the translucency, multi-color patterns, and high-gloss polish that only cellulose acetate can provide, and that's exactly what we're delivering: custom eyewear WITHOUT compromise. And you won't find anyone else in the world that can do what we do. :)

I was a beta tester for the app and know several people on the team. They have a top-notch team of passionate, smart, and talented people who are using a cutting-edge method to solve a problem that will improve the way that millions of people purchase eyewear. Good luck Team Topology!

Pros:

Topology Eyewear has a simple yet powerful interface that let's you preview what glasses will look like and customize them to your face!

Cons:

I would love to see more styles, but the initial catalog is still great!

One other important point to mention: WE'RE HIRING! Yep, we currently have positions for rockstar iOS developers, Growth Marketers and Creative Content Marketers. Come on over to https://angel.co/topologyeyewear... to read more and apply. Remember we actually make every pair of glasses from scratch in central San Francisco, so in addition to working with our killer team of humans, you get to work alongside our robots, lasers, tumblers and more. It really is awesome to be a part of.

@lenskart , A company from India also has a similar feature featured on its website .
Eric Varady
@vishva_thejeshwar thanks for the tip. But I should clarify: Lenskart only does the virtual try-on of stock off-the-shelf frames (and their 3d mapping is far inferior to ours). We do full-custom eyewear. Completely different product.

For people who use eyewear, uncomfortable glasses is a very popular problem. So, in my opinion, this is very creative and game-changing.

@hr_ant99 Thanks! As many people know, the eyewear industry is controlled by a very small number of very large companies. The worst sin of these monopolies is that they haven't even tried to improve the experience of wearing eyeglasses in generations! We're excited to get in there and mix it up.
Eric Varady
@hr_ant99 Thanks for the validation! It's so rewarding to know, after years of relentless hard work and focus on this singular issue (by all the members of the Topology team), that the end result of our efforts truly resonates with real customers.
Eric Varady
The hype of 3D printing has gotten a bit beyond its actual capabilities: 3D-printed parts will indeed look 3D-printed. The truth is, if people actually wanted that 3D-printed look on their face, eyewear companies could have injection-molded eyewear frames 40 years ago with the texture and opaque color of what we now call 3D-printing. And the fact is, people have consistently and conclusively voted with their wallets to reject that aesthetic, which is why you don't see that 3D-printed look being popular.

Feel free to ask me any questions about the eyewear industry, our breakthrough product, our story, etc!

I created Topology Eyewear because stock eyewear simply doesn’t fit most people. That’s why those off-the-shelf frames pinch, rub, and slide down your nose. We’ve spent 3 years innovating in both software and hardware to be able to make premium quality eyewear, one-at-a-time, perfectly sized and sculpted for one person at a time. And now it is ready for you. I’m delighted to make our work available to you today, and for 48 hours only, I’d like to offer you this special “Product Hunt Edition” to celebrate. (See pix) We are also offering the Product Hunt Edition at 10% discount on our full price, so to find out how to get yours, please visit: https://www.topologyeyewear.com/... I’m looking forward to answering your questions and hearing your feedback. Oh, and if you want any help choosing, just use the share feature in the app to post to social media, tag @topologyeyewear and we’ll pitch-in with advice. Download the app TODAY: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/... (Note: we're only available for the moment in the US iOS App Store, and we're mainly optimized for iPhone. If you're outside the US, or use Android, do follow us on our social media pages or sign-up on our website to be notified when we expand globally or to other platforms). Thanks!

Now the choice of Eyewear can take less time
Chris Guest
@kyla_hiller Absolutely! And you don't even leave your home to do it. Just snap a photo of your prescription, send it to us, and we do the rest. Have you tried the app yet?
Margaret Beattie
It is very convenient
Chris Guest
@margaret_beattie That's what we are aiming for! Anyone that has spent hours trying to find their one needle in the haystack of glasses at an optical store knows what this can do for them. ;)

How is this coming along? It's great to see advances in custom fit frames!
David Carpe
it took a ridiculously long time to find pricing. after downloading app - which came after scouting website - i then find prices start at 500, plus 50 for common lens prescriptions, plus 100 or more for additional options. why don't you state this clearly on your website like, "starting at 500 dollars"?
Eric Varady
@passingnotes thanks for the honest feedback David! I'll chat with Chris later today and see what we can do.
David Carpe
@ericvarady thanks. it might help to clarify that you're positioning against luxury alternatives BUT offering far more than "prada off the rack" - versus warby fans clicking through and experiencing shock
Eric Varady
@passingnotes you're certainly right - this is an affordable luxury play. But we do already have many customers that have paid WAY more for eyewear previously, and yet have gotten a lot less value than what we offer. Warby is a tremendous company, and I think they'll do extremely well in the stock eyewear segment by making stock more affordable. But you can only take stock off-the-shelf products so far. And stock frames cater to the mean of the market - which leaves a long tail of the market full of customers quite underserved because they simply don't fit. So the value of what we can do for them (not only in custom fit frames, but also with superior optics) is in itself a different value play. For example, we're the only company in the world that make a state-of-the-art fully-compensated progressive lens online. And we charge a lot less for this superior lens than the competition (Warby included)
