@rrhoover They've been around before GitHub released its client. I've been using Tower for almost 3 years. It's way advanced in terms of functionality compared to Github client. Yet simple enough to setup and start pushing commits :)
Rebase/Stash/Multiple Remote repos/etc all incorporated in Tower. I also think that Tower has a better commit-history browser. If you finding yourself using CLI with Github client, I would recommend you to have a look at Tower.
@pointnova Thanks for the Tower! Curious what is the next product updates on your roadmap?
I encourage you to submit http://www.git-tower.com/learn to Product Hunt tomorrow, looks very useful. This thread is not that discoverable anymore.
@nikitakorotaev Thank you! We're currently working on some great new features including support for multiple windows, git-flow support, conflict wizard and more. :)
The very best GUI I've ever used for Git. The terminology used is not different from the git commands, so if you know Git, you'll know how to use Tower. It's a powerful Git client, and a great Mac app.
I switched to Tower about a year ago after experiencing poor performance from my previous system. I was a bit reluctant due to the pricing but it's been worth the money for my personal use.
Pros:
- Works great
- Clear and simple UX
- Fast
Cons:
- The auth flow breaks sometimes
- Some of the action names don't resonate well with Git (I struggle a bit to checkout remote branches)
I've been using Tower for almost 3 years now. I never tried GitHub's client because I was already using this one. ;)
This actually speaks to an interesting topic: it's hard to get users to switch to a new product. http://jobstobedone.org/news/bet...
Same story here; been using it for 3+ years, before GitHub had an app. Tried switching, couldn't do my whole workflow, happily returned to Tower & never looked back.
Hi everyone! Julian here from Tower. Let me know if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help. :)
Also we just launched "Learn Version Control with Git" today, a new learning platform for the version control system Git: http://www.git-tower.com/learn
