Jonathan Shariat recently wrote a story about a young girl named Jenny who died because the nurses taking care of her were distracted with a poorly designed interface. He states that design and technology should make our lives better and I couldn't agree more. Jenny deserved better.
After hitting #1 on Medium's most recommended list and remaining there for over a week in October 2014, it was clear that there were many others who felt the same way he did and wanted to know how they could help.
While the book still has yet to be published, I am very excited for it. In the book, Jonathan will explore how important design is and the harm it can cause when design is overlooked. While we often think that the cost of bad design is lost customers, it can also cause physical harm, emotional harm, exclusion, and injustice.
His goal is to get designers and all involved in the making of products, thinking about how they impact user’s lives in very real ways.
Design is more important than we think!
