It was a pleasure partnering with Trello on this. We're huge Trello fans at Slack, and are super excited to see this get so much better... and looking forward to continuing to work with you.
The most interesting feature is attaching Slack conversations to a Trello card. For teams that use both products there is a tension between where conversations want to happen (Slack) and where project artifacts need to live (Trello). So it's great to see something that brings them together. I do wonder if users on my team, and others, will be diligent about adding those conversations to cards. It would be fantastic if there was a way to associate them automatically, but I'm not sure how that would work.
@mvboeke This has been my favorite feature. Alongside minimizing context switching between Trello and Slack one of our goals for the app was to make it super easy to add context to cards, especially when there's a conversation in Slack that leads to a Trello card. I've also found myself clicking that button when someone pastes a card into Slack and there's discussion
@hamidp Does this require a Trello Business account? And what is the difference between the Business account Trello integration and this new Trello for Slack? Thanks
@thomas_tomhawk_burningham This works for all teams, free and paid. Paid teams get access to a Power-Ups which extend Trello as a platform and pull in data from other other sources. So you can use the Trello app for Slack completely free, and if you want the Power-Up it's paid. We're planning on merging it all together at some point as well.
@lee_stuttaford@mvboeke There's an Attach Conversation button that basically attaches a link to the message where the card was sent. Gives you context around conversations. So say you paste a link to a card and then a conversation about it happens. You want to note that conversation somehow for future reference - just click Attach Conversation
Trello and Slack are on a collision course. It's inevitable for Slack to add more project management features into their core. They already have "reminders".
This looks great ! I'm wondering how customizable it is though.
We have a ticket template we use and if creating a new card could use a pre-defined template (or copy a "Template" card), that would be a killer feature for our workflow!
Love this. I'd love to be able to use this integration within a team AND outside of a team (example: personal boards that aren't part of a team). Have you guys considered this? @hamidp
@hamidp Yeah, but the board would be separate from the Trello team. I guess I'm not getting why the tie-in to teams is necessary here. The other Trello integration didn't require this.
@brandonelwood We show all the Trello team visible content in Slack by default, so from a security perspective we require you to be an admin of the Trello team to add the app, and we also require that all content be in a team. We're definitely thinking about supporting use cases like the one you mentioned, where there are boards that are not in any team but are used to manage stuff.
@alexintosh This happens if you are not an admin of any team. If you go to https://trello.com/me you should see a list of your teams. You have to be an admin of one of those to add the app to Slack.
Is there a view to expand the functionality of this? Could Trello bot listen and suggest cards? "hey @hamidp, can you do design mockups for Wednesday?" -> "Would you like to add 'Design Mockups' Assignee: @hamidp Due Date: Wednesday 29 June 2016 to list 'To Do'? [Yes] [Different List] [No]"
Killer-feature?
@buster@hamidp I don't understand why the trello alerts can't be part of this so that I can subscribe channels to trello activities with the slash command and do button actions directly on the card that was modified on trello when the alert/notification comes in.
Loveleeee!!!! Thanks 🙏 And when you thought Trello couldn't get any better! Will this mean more time on Trello and less time on Slack?! Or vice versa??
@hamidp That's odd :) Anyways my question was about customization of cards.
We have a ticket template we use and if creating a new card from Slack could use a pre-defined template (or copy a "Template" and use that card), that would be a killer feature for our workflow!
"Looks like you're not a member of any teams. Why not create one?"
Although I'm both logged in on Trello and Slack. Also, how does this play with the old Trello integration? Because we used to use that, and I also checked if the bot knows about the new command and it doesn't.
We have added this feature and are looking forward to trying it out. We use Trello a lot and we are hopeful this will add to efficiency as opposed to detracting from it.
