Congratulations on the launch @david_tulamics! Tula Mic design looks incredible! As someone who's stepping into the podcasting arena myself, I think this will come in real handy when recording content for Founder Story I’m looking forward to trying it out with my team.

Hello Everyone, My name is David Brown. I’m the founder of Tula Mics. I’m a lifelong musician and songwriter. I was Beck’s sax player back in the late 90s and for the past 20+ years I’ve been the leader of the cult band, Brazzaville. In 2014, I founded a high-end pro audio company called Soyuz Microphones. It’s since grown into a well respected brand used by the likes of Coldplay and Radiohead. In the past 8 years we’ve grown from just my partner and I and a crazy capsule scientists to over 50 employees and our own factory. In 2022, more people that ever require high-quality audio but often don’t have the means or the expertise to achieve it. Podcasts, YouTube channels and home offices have exploded in recent years and they all require an easy way of capturing professional-quality sound. Enter the Tula Mic. The Tula Mic is a stylish and portable USB microphone that works effortlessly with computers phones and tablets. It’s also a standalone mobile recorder capable of up to 12 hours of recording using its own internal battery and memory. It has exceptional build quality and it fits in your pocket. The Tula features an embedded noise reduction system called Brusfri, developed by the Swedish software company, Klevgrand. Tula is not in the concept of prototype stage. We’re already in mass production and have had more than a million dollars in sales in our first year. There are thousands of happy Tula users around the world and we have a 4.5 star rating on Amazon. If you’re interested in getting a Tula Mic of your own, we’re offering a special limited time offer of 15% off for Product Hunters. Last but definitely not least, I’d like to thank Chris Messina for hunting us!

Rucha Joshi
The product design is gorgeous! What regions is it currently available in?
David Brown
@rucha_joshi8 It's available worldwide from our website as well as Amazon and local dealers in many markets.
Vatsal Mehta
Is it having an app because I guess it's easy to control from an app and also easy to transfer recording on the mobile device.
David Brown
@mehtavatsal It's easy to transfer files onto a computer. The Tula appears as a hard drive and your files are all there. That said, we are going to develop a mobile app as there will be a lot fo cool things that can be done with it.
Melissa Monte
I want this so badly. How does it work with iOS?
David Brown
@melissamonteee Hi Melissa, with an iPad Pro or anything else with a USB-C input, it works with just a cable. With an iPhone (lightning connector) you'll need to use their camera connector, but it works great!
Melissa Monte
@david_tulamics Thank you! I just applied for your affiliate program. I'm launching a suite of podcast courses at podlove.io and I've been looking so a good portable mic to promote and I think this just may be it. The seafoam green color is beautiful. I'm putting in a request for rose gold now though. 😉
David Brown
@melissamonteee Fantastic! I think you're going to love the Tula.
Eugene Kalnyk
Hey there! Are the mics assembled in Tula, Russia?
David Brown
@yevheshko No, they were designed in Barcelona and Stockholm and they're made in Malaysia.
Brandon Hull
@yevheshko @david_tulamics But in fairness, and I don't mean to make this a big thing, isn't the company "base" in Russia, per this page: https://soyuzmicrophones.com/our....
David Brown
@yevheshko @brandonhull No. Soyuz Microphones is a completely different company. Tula Mics is based in Houston and manufactured in Malaysia. I'm American. I'm the primary designer for both brands. I'm the founder of Tula and the co-founder of Soyuz. I must say that I'm appalled at the way the west has been so quick to condemn anyone who happens to be Russian because of the actions of their government, which they have zero control over. I'm an American and I feel lucky that I haven't been blamed for the horrific invasions my country has been involved in recent decades. I had no say in those events and the average Russian has no say in what's going on right now. The 43 very kind and decent people who work at the Soyuz factory should not be blamed for this war. Forgive the long winded answer but I'm really tired of this. The Saudis are bombing civilians in Yemen every single day but we have no problem buying their oil or selling them arms. America has killed countless civilians in our distant wars and yet people still buy our products. Why, because of the actions of Vladimir Putin is the entire Russian population blamed? Soyuz has zero to do with the Russian government or the Russian military and the bulk of our profits and taxes are paid in the US via our company in LA.
Eugene Kalnyk
@brandonhull @david_tulamics David, thank you for your detailed response! It is truly horrible that both nations suffer from the actions of one man — Vladimir Putin — us, Ukrainians, from bombings and the horros of war, and Russians economically from sanctions and isolation, that are a direct result of their government's actions. I must disagree that Russians have zero control — they are the ones who elected Putin president, and they are the single power who's able to remove him, stop the war and lift sanctions (if that's what they want to do) — it's always a choice to tolerate a certain way of things or resist it, like Ukrainians resisting the invasion and coming out to peaceful protests in the cities that have already been occupied by Russian military. There's always a choice.
Brandon Hull
@yevheshko @david_tulamics I'm not condemning you or the company. But I know this is an important issue to many people right now -- whether they're supporting companies based in Russia or not, and they would want that full transparency. Just like others want full transparency about where their food is grown, or whether products have been made with child labor, etc.

David Brown
@stevenjames They're pretty distinct products. The Tula should have better sound, I would imagine (larger capsule, Burr Brown op amp) And the Tula also doubles as a mobile recorder and has Brusfri noise reduction. That said, for certain use cases the Rode would probably be better. They make great products!
csol
?makers any idea how this would fare against using Zoom H/Tascam DR recorders?
David Brown
@csol It should sound quite a lot richer. It also works well as a USB mic and has optional, embedded noise reduction. One other nice thing about the Tula is that you can be recording really fast. Two quick button presses and you're off to the races. Oh! And it's very cute and fits in your pocket.
csol
@david_tulamics Tempted to see how the audio would fair against Zoom H1n. Ends up being the same target market. I will see if I can find one for testing close to me. :)) Thank you. It's great to see teams focusing on improving audio input instead of just output.
David Brown
@csol Where are you located?
David Brown
@csol We have an office in Barcelona!
