Hi Product Hunters! David here again to let you know about our newest product, Typewise 3.0. We have developed a new Autocorrection AI together with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. Over the last few months, we’ve worked hard to develop the world’s best Autocorrection, with special focus on typing in multiple languages, incl. regional dialects (such as Swiss German). Isn’t it annoying when you are just trying to get your point across, but the autocorrection of a “normal” keyboard keeps “correcting” that word you want to “duck” 😉 With Typewise 3.0, our Autocorrection is equipped to handle your lingo too! Besides, we’ve thought of the most common issues we encounter every day when typing on a smartphone: 🤖Unlike standard keyboards, Typewise learns and remembers your individual slang or terminology that you use at work ⏪In case you disagree with the Autocorrection, you can easily adjust corrections with a tap on our unique Undo Button 💬Good news for those who speak multiple languages: Typewise automatically detects and switches to the right language, this feature is currently available in 40+ languages 🔒Typewise doesn’t transmit any typing data, the keyboard is sandboxed. For privacy lovers, we even have an Offline Mode that severs any internet connection completely We’d love to hear your feedback so far, so please share your thoughts with us! Cheers, David

Great product! Congrats on the launch!
Ken Moo
Really hard to move to another app as I'm very used to swiftkey now. Anyone have tried this, how's the UX? Qn: -Does it support voice text to speech? uses Google API? -Support chinese pinyin input? Congrats on the launch :)
David Eberle
@kenmoo I presume you mean speech-to-text? This is something on our roadmap, where we also want to build a privacy-friendly / on-device approach. Currently we don't support Pinyin input, but it has also been requested by our users, so it will come :-) https://suggestions.typewise.app... - Cheers, David

If this is a Gboard alternative, where's the support for emoji search, GIFs, and web and YouTube search? This is a swipe-keyboard, sure — but it's not a Gboard alternative.
David Eberle
@chrismessina great to re-connect! Emoji search is on our short-term roadmap, in terms of search, fair point, but there we'd want to collaborate with a privacy-friendly search engine. For GIFs we are in discussions with GIPHY but are wondering whether users don't rather use the app's built-in GIF functionality? Most social media apps and messengers have that, so not sure how much value it adds on the keyboard (but immediately requires internet access). What's your view?
Stan Chernitckii
@chrismessina Agree, Chris. But Gboard doesn't have the great honeycomb keys! I think it's just an MVP for now. On the other hand, any Google product always respects and supports Cyrillic languages - here we don`t see it. I

What a pity there is no Russian layout :( Looking forward!
David Eberle
@sergey_glushakov thanks for your comment! Indeed Cyrillic (incl. Russian and Greek) is planned. We have a feature request community and Russian tops the list :-) https://suggestions.typewise.app - Cheers, David

Like privacy and AI suggestions:) I would like classic keyboard so addon for standard ios keyboard will be great for me. Congrats guys!
David Eberle
@rtkirill thanks! There is the option to switch to the traditional layout, in case you mean that by 'classic keyboard'... :)

Isn't all keyboards work offline? I think you are talking about AI. Anyway, looks amazing. I will have to give a try.
David Eberle
@knilkantha we mean the app as a whole, including the AI. Most keyboards have internet access (see the permissions they use), which even can't be switched off. While our app itself also has internet access, it can be turned off (Offline Mode), and the keyboard itself is completely sandboxed (incl. the AI). More information can be found here: https://medium.com/startup-grind...

@davideberle Thank you for awesome product. I just installed it in my phone. to be honest, I had to set back to traditional keyboard after giving some try on hexagonal keyboard. I am heavily missing clipboard history feature that many other keyboard has. Also, I would like to see Nepali language in keyboard selection. I didn't have good experience while typing in Roman Nepali. I had to switch to other keyword to prevent the auto correction.
David Eberle
@knilkantha yes we offer both layouts, depending on your preference. We currently don't support Nepali language, so I guess the keyboard was set to English and you typed Nepali words which then got autocorrected to English? In that case I agree it wouldn't work well. We will add new languages in the future, incl. Nepali :-)
Eugenia Russell
?makers Hi, does it support Greek? Many thanks.
David Eberle
@eugenia_russell thanks for your comment! Indeed Cyrillic (incl. Greek) is planned. We have a feature request community and Greek is on there as well: https://suggestions.typewise.app... - Cheers, David

I am using the typewise for a day. it is pretty fun to use and challenging in a good way. However, i was wondering if the company made any research while designing the keyboard?
Taha Mirhan Tanrıverdi
While using the keyboard, i am getting of my comfort zone and after using it for hours my brain hurts :') of course this the adaptation part after using the qwerty keyboards... By the way, the game to practice in the app is surprisingly fun if you insert more it can be more fun!
David Eberle
@scofpanda yes a lot of research went into it, both primary research as well as leveraging existing academic research and meeting with the researchers, more information here: https://uxplanet.org/smart-ui-ho... and https://uxdesign.cc/why-we-strug...
Guy Malachi
Will give this a try, good luck! If it supported Hebrew I could get rid of Google's keyboard.
David Eberle
@guy looking forward to your thoughts! Hebrew has already been requested by our users :-) https://suggestions.typewise.app...

I've testing it just a few weeks but a realy like typewise. Will be awaiting of new updates!

Though the hexagonal layout takes a little getting used to, Typewise is an great app. It is privacy friendly and has a wonderful team behind it. Moreover, once you get used to the layout, it is faster than normal typing. Would recommend giving it a try at the very least.
David Eberle
@vicksu thanks for the flowers! we obviously work hard on making it better still, and also getting down that learning curve so that more people can enjoy the benefits!
Nikita Markov
looks super cool! congrats on the launch 🚀
Zahid Anwar
keyboard needs to be transparent in Android smartphone which will make typing faster
David Eberle
@zahid_anwar thanks for your suggestion - what exactly do you mean by transparent? We have a similar request on our feature platform, but also there it wasn't entirely clear what the user meant by that... https://suggestions.typewise.app...

I really feel like moving to a dictation based option is the most reasonable option. When is the plan to add support for voice-to-text?
David Eberle
@ericsr we have a research-collaboration with ETH Zurich, one of Europe's leading tech institutes. We're currently investigating with the team whether we build a privacy-friendly, on-device voice tech ourselves or leverage existing solutions and plug it in. The keyboard should definitely also inform the voice-to-text engine how the user spells certain words/phrases (e.g. names outside of a standard dictionary) or support when the audio input is unclear...
Cezary Dobrowolski
It looks... interesting actualy! :o I've never thought there could be a better type of keyboard than qwerty. Surly gonna give it a try, cause it looks promising. I'll let you know whats up as soon as I got some feedback!
David Eberle
@wekh awesome! depending on how you feel with the layout, you can revert back to the traditional layout but still enjoy benefits incl. delete/restore gestures, multi-lang capability, privacy, autocorrect undo, etc.
Kadir Inip
Really impressive. Congrats guys!!!
