This will save a lot of time when analyzing client landing pages for opportunities. Nice!
Oli Gardner
@sunir That's really validating to hear. Thanks Sunir! Quick question for you, if I may? Which elements of your process would be enhanced/reduced/replaced by having access to this type of info?
Tejaswi R

Not sure how "AI" can help analyze my landing page when it has no clue about my customer persona, the product features, the market. It just asks a keyword and does a broad "analysis" which shows my page speed, mobile friendliness (not sure how its better than Google page insights), some frivilous report

the design scoring didnt make sense. Not sure what it meant by

Above The Fold — needs attention

Focusing Your Visitor's Attention — needs attention

What attention? How? What?

Overall, I have observed how this is a gimmick to collect leads for Unbounce. Dissapointed. :(

Pros:

The design of the page

Cons:

Nothing actionable or worth the time; shows numbers for the sake of it and a superficial tool.

Oli Gardner
Hi Tejaswi, Sorry that it didn't at first appear as useful as you'd hoped. If I may address a few of your comments. I think we'd all agree that things like target persona, product features etc. are critical to conveying a value proposition effectively. Where this tool aims to help is by providing industry specific recommendations based on an analysis of thousands of other landing pages in your vertical. The idea is that we can show you what’s worked for others and what hasn’t, so you can make an informed decision on how to adjust the content of your page to improve its conversion rate. We also designed the Analyzer to serve as a solid gut check in some critical areas that tend to affect the majority of landing page conversion rates. Regarding the AI portion of the report, if you chose the industry you are in, and your conversion rate on the form, it compares your performance to those in our analysis of 70 million interactions with 65,000 Unbounce landing pages. The section where you see “Focusing Your Visitor's Attention — needs attention” in your results snapshot, that means we have some important recommendations to offer you. All you have to do is click the arrow below your results snapshot to see your comprehensive list of recommendations. That part bases some of its analysis on the concept of Attention Ratio, whereby for the most part a highly effective landing page will have a single CTA and no external links. So it counts the number of links you have above the fold and as a whole. Your ideal Attention Ratio is 1:1, but might be 10:1 or 40:1 depending on how many links you have. With regards to page speed, what we did there to make it actionable (again if you expand that portion of the report) is to show the size of your images, and how much smaller they could be if compressed, and it also provides direct links to download those optimized images. Pretty cool really! Does all of that make sense? Happy to answer any further questions. Cheers, Oli

@Tejaswi R :Uuuh and and your 'old' company collects no leads with their analyzer? Sorry, can't take your review seriously
Tejaswi R
@oligardner Thanks for taking the time for a detailed reply. I know you count the minutes in your busy day. I have my reservations about such tools at an existential level - not questioning some selected value. I was part of VWO before and I noticed we had developed some tools like this in our early days as well. My observations come with the perspective that marketing is hard. Landing page optimization is hard. Analyzing is hard. Your tool does a good scoring maybe at some points like page speed and comparing benchmarks in industry. But whats the actionable value? Doesn't it make it sound like analyzing is easy and so is optimisation? Just by following some recommendations. I sincerely think this tool is all about lead generation for Unbounce. Such ideas can be ideated and put into implementation within weeks. I am not discounting the data you have collected and run through to analyze but I think as marketers, we really need to question our assumptions and see what actual value we bring to the world, to our customers. Thanks again for the warm response with an intent to listen.
Oli Gardner
@tejazz89 Well of course, some of it is heuristic analysis, which definitely has a lot of value in and of itself. Optimization is VERY hard. Which is why using some of our expertise in the report can be helpful to those who might not be so familiar with some of these aspects. Some of the social graph stuff, as Stef mentioned is great for QA'ing a page before you launch. Appreciate your thoughts! We'll definitely be taking all feedback for future versions. And to address the lead gen aspect. Yah of course this is part of our content marketing strategy as similar things like HubSpot's website grader have been for years. We do legitimately believe it offers more than it's fair quotient of benefit though, and hope folks can use it to start conversations about how to improve their landing pages.
Tejaswi R
@71rhino You got me wrong. I meant that such lead gen stratgies are super short term and the market sees no long term value with it. I don't think VWO's Landing page analyzer is changing the world.
Tejaswi R
I read about this in VentureBeat today. What an overrated tool this is! "Unbounce launches AI-powered landing page analyzer after 8 years of training" it said. Yea, right! I love Unbounce and have used them for 3+ years in every role in my career. But this tool is gimmicky and it's like something a snake oil salesman would sell for cheap. As a marketer, I see a "growth hack" when i see one and this is purely for lead gen with no real value for those who provide their landing page and contact details. Sorry, I got no actionable insights which free tools like googles page insights or other tools don't do a better job at.
Oli Gardner
@tejazz89 Hi Tejaswi, I added an extended reply to your review above. I'd love for you to check it out and let me know if you have any more questions.
Vytas Butkevicius
Was pretty excited when I saw "Landing page analyser" because I think it's cool idea. Unfortunately the sign-up form is so long it doesn't even fit in my screen. Sorry about the negativity, but this feels like a relatively straightforward marketing "how to capture more leads" approach. Instantly closed the website... Would recommend looking at how InVision grabbed lots of emails with their IBM video (I was glad to give them my details).
Oli Gardner
@vytasbu Hi! If I can address your comment, the reason the form is pretty long is that we take the details you enter to make the report specific to you. For example, if it has a form, we provide different feedback compared to if it doesn't. For traffic sources, we use that to look at things like the keywords on your page (if you check organic), message match with keywords your ad might have. And one of the coolest parts, is if you choose your industry, and enter your conversion rate, we compare it to tens of thousands of Unbounce pages to see where it stacks up with regards to our industry benchmark report. Does that make some sense?
Primer
@vytasbu @dainiskanopa I too was put off by the length of the form and the nature of the questions.
Oli Gardner
Hi Mick, Thanks for the feedback! From a research (and personal) perspective, I'd love to know which questions gave you reason to pause and feel that way? And if I may, what did you think you would have received if you'd submitted the form? << My hope being to learn and make the experience of using the analyzer better for all.

This is great. Nice work Oli!

Full disclaimer: I work at Unbounce. And am biased. That being said, I've been working at Unbounce for 5 years as a marketer. And have been making and optimizing landing pages for a ton of campaigns. And I have had my fair share embarrassing landing page mistakes. True story: I forgot the meta-data on a fully launched, public landing page. And then was called out on stage at Call To Action Conference on my landing pages SEO (or Lack thereof) by Michael King. #ouch #thatonehurt If I had this at the time, mistakes would have been easily avoided. It's like a second pair of eyes combing over everything that's really important on your page. In seconds. Everything down to the little details - like telling you when your images are too big and are slowing down your page. And then giving you downloadable and compressed images to speed up your page. Or previewing your social open graph tags so you can see what your images look like. And if you need to debug them they link right to the social debug tools (#handy). And yes, telling you when you forgot your meta-data and your h1 tags so you can actually rank. Super proud of the team on launching this 🙌 -Stef

Congrats on the launch of the new Landing Page Analyzer, Oli & the team. Just tried it... and I don't want to brag but.. it says "Your page is killin' it!" ;) hell yeah!! We've learned the basics & "must-knows" of conversion centered design all from Unbounce. So with confidence, will use your new analyzer and will recommend.
Brian H
Thanks so much for the comment and support @joshsoftorino! Oli is flying at the moment but he'll be delighted to see this. If you have any feedback on the analyzer we are all ears :)
Phil Nottingham

Love the grading system, and it's a simple way to highlight major problems, such as page speed and a lack of necessary taggin.g

Pros:

It's clever, and potentially will save a bunch of time and internal debates

Cons:

potentially the advice is a bit generic and could lead you astray

Brian H
Thanks for taking the time to review and for the kind words @philnottingham - really appreciate it. Agreed regarding your con - it's important that people don't replace their optimization procedure with this tool but rather let it support it. Thanks again :)
Raul Tiru
Amazing tool. Really looking forward to seeing it become even better. Well done, Oli & team.

This is awesome! Having seen a lot of these lead gen graders recently, I honestly have gotten a little jaded and don't expect a ton of truly helpful insight from them. Normally, they're just kind of fun to play with for a few minutes and pretty much just shows you a prettier version of something you already know, right? But this is Unbounce, so OBVIOUSLY, I was still going to try it out. 😉 If there's any company to give me hope that these can still be helpful... This was SO helpful! Like @smgreiser said, it's a great second pair of eyes. 👀 I used this to analyze the landing page for a free email course. When I first created this page, it was brand new and I didn't have social proof, but asking for a testimonial was part of the course email sequence, so I knew I'd have some soon enough and figured I would add the first few in once I got them. Well, that was 8 months ago... I have TONS of social proof for this course that I forgot to go add in. Thank you, second pair of eyes! The one thing that would be nice would be the ability to provide more optional info. For example, a lot of the words on the copy suggestions list would be SUPER off-brand to use, so instead I have words with similar meanings that are more in the brand voice. The page was also for a more in-depth offer, so while it could be more concise, I don't think it'll ever be under 100 words and still have main details + social proof, etc.
Dainis Kanopa
I think this is smart new lead generation idea, good luck!
Brian H
@dainiskanopa Thank you Dainis, really appreciate it!

+1 to what @ oligardner said! This tool has been six months in the making and we’re delighted that it’s finally out in the wild! We want this to be a valuable tool to help anyone running marketing campaigns. So, Product Hunters, we’d love to hear your honest feedback so we can keep improving - what else do you want to know about your landing page - what kind of feedback are we missing? Is there anything that you do or don’t like? Also, I know some users have come across some bugs. I’m actively pushing fixes so thanks to everyone pointing them out. Please feel free to comment here or message me with any you find. Thanks in advance for your feedback. If you have any questions on the tool I’d be happy to answer.

@oligardner solid work, Oli!
Brian Davidson

We saw a huge lift in landing page performance for a client using the compression suggestions and by using some of the copy suggestions. We are now going to update some of the copy in our Facebook ads as a result of the lift.

Pros:

Very useful

Cons:

Message match was a bit difficult

Brian H
Thanks so much for being an early supporter - especially for uncovering those bugs :) - and for the kind words @brian_davidson. Great to hear about the lift! Agreed we haven't quite nailed how we try to explore message match - something we're going to address in v2. Thanks again.
@Anna Shamkova
Unfortuanately, doesn't work. Applied form twice. Are you going to review each landing manually? If so, this is ... unusual ) Usually users expect results "right now", from graders like yours.
Brian H
Hey @anna_shamkova, thanks for taking the time to comment and sorry it didn't work for you. It should automatically review and return the results within approx 10 seconds (or as close to "right now" as we can at the moment!). Would you mind sending me the page you were trying to analyze and I can look into it? If you'd prefer not to send it over comment, you can email it to me at brian.hemeryck@unbounce.com. I'll look into the issue then and will do my best to get it working for you.
Brian H
Thanks for emailing and for bearing with me @anna_shamkova - glad we were able to run your analysis :)
@Anna Shamkova
@briantvh thank you too, for your help! The game was worth it, the results are actually interesting. Will use definitely.
Brian H
@anna_shamkova Thank you Anna :)

Very good food for thought and motivation to make adjustments where something might have been overlooked.

Pros:

Great analysis and detailed recommendations. Easy and fun to digest.

Cons:

Missed social proof which brought score down.

Kimbe MacMaster

This helped me determine what could be fixed on my page for better performance. The recommendations were very actionable and I'll be going to fix them now!

Pros:

Asked specific questions about my page and the traffic used to get there to give more relevant recommendations.

Cons:

None so far.

Sri

What else can one do to improve the score? For instance, I got 16% in messaging, that means my key words used in social media campaigns are really bad. So, what key words do I need to put up? If this tool can tell me that and in turn if I see results, I'd pay for this app.

Pros:

The percentage scores, explanations about what's good about your page, clean UI.

Cons:

"How to improves these scores" - can be better.

Oli Gardner
Hi Sri! Did you enter some keywords/phrases in the form when you launch the analyzer? If you do it will hunt for those on the page when scoring it.

Here it is what I am thinking : IFs are not AI
