Yes, even if someone forgot about your birthday, you may remind them in elegant way, sending a link to you wish :-) How would I develop such a product:
1) Making agreements with stores. The store may give discount on the product for those who have birthday, linking to your service page, where a birthday-person may reshare the link to its friends.
2) Conecting to Facebook and receive all people who liked your posts the most in the last year and let send the link to everyone.
3) Promoting your service to everyone who have birthsday via Facebook - the most easy way

@ming_hsun_tsai Hello Tsai, the app can actually be used for any event. In your case, you simple name the wish list the name of your milestone. Does that address your concern?
@sarah_wright7 Hi Sarah, we are different from Zola in a number of ways.
COUNTRY OF USE
Zola is currently only available for use in the US. Unboxd is available in Africa with a plan for global roll out in the works.
VENDORS
Zola has vendors whose items you can add to your wish list. On Unboxd, users can add any item with a picture and price, receive part or full contributions from loved ones in a secure wallet and they withdraw the money to buy the items from anywhere they choose.
WEDDING FOCUSED
Zola is primarily for weddings. Unboxd is used for every occasion from birthdays to wedding, graduation, charity, new baby etc.
There are other differentiators but I hope these points answer your question.

In the weeks leading up to our wedding, our friends and family kept asking us what we wanted for gifts and what they could help us with as we prepared to move into a new home together.
My wife and I researched several wish list platforms but none gave the flexibility we needed. We wanted to be able to add items without being limited to certain vendors, and most importantly, we wanted to give our loved ones the option to contribute part or the full amount we needed for any item.
Since we couldn't find anything, my partner @toluadesina conceived the idea to build out a platform to solve our need. Within a few days, I worked on the UX, my wife supported with insight on how she would want the app to work and @toluadesina put it all together.

We used it to create our wedding wish list and have now opened it up for other people to use it for all other kinds of occasion like birthdays, new baby, anniversary, etc.
