Congrats to the UpVPN team on the launch! This serverless approach sounds like a cost-effective and secure way to stay connected. Excited to see how it transforms VPN usage on iOS and iPadOS!
Himanshu
@vietpham thank you!

Nice to see a VPN service that has GEO block from it's side.

Sounds existing @gigapotential Wish you all the best.. As these day some of the websites detect cloud/datacenter IP addresses. How do you address this? Does it has provision to select residential proxies?
Himanshu
@roopreddy thank you! The product currently only use datacenter IP, if any person familiar with cloud computing were to create their own WireGuard server then UpVPN is the most convenient option for cost + time savings. Same thing is made more accessible to broader set of consumers who are already familiar with consumer VPN.

Congratulations on the launch 🎉 UpVPN looks cool. A cost effective VPN is hard to find. I’ve been developing ConverForm.com, a conversational forms builder that turns static forms into engaging, conversational experiences—might be a great way to connect with these early adopters. All the best ahead!

Serverless computing applied to VPN is such a forward thinking approach. It's exciting to see how you’re leveraging WireGuard’s speed and privacy features while also making it affordable with pay-as-you-go plans. Can’t wait to see how this product evolves.

This is a fascinating approach Using serverless architecture for a VPN is something I haven't seen before. I’m curious though how does it handle high load traffic like streaming or gaming? It’s awesome that you offer both light and unlimited usage plans but I’d love to know how it performs under heavy demand.
Himanshu
@matthew_flores1 thank you! For high load traffic I'd recommend to connect to locations marked with a blue dot, aka fully serverless location. That way you get a new server so you can be sure that you're not pooled into existing servers and get full bandwidth of new server for your use.

Hey Himanshu, Have you noticed any significant differences in speed or reliability compared to traditional VPN architectures? It would be great to hear about any unique challenges you faced while developing this serverless solution. Congrats on the launch!
Himanshu
@kyrylosilin thank you. Given that a VPN server is provisioned in one-click - there's a lot of complexity underneath that simplicity, UpVPN is built to be fault tolerant. Unlike SaaS with web app, the biggest challenge is to have native apps for many OS platforms.
Mike Kerzhner
@gigapotential Congrats on the launch. Love it! Would you be able to comment on differences between UpVPN and MullvadVPN from a user's perspective? Is the major differentiator cost?
Himanshu
@mikekerzhner Thank you! Indeed, product optimizes for cost. For example, if a customer creates a VPN Session for their Web Device (a managed WireGuard-as-a-service feature) and uses it but forgets to end the session, the system automatically ends it after 24 hours of no data transfer (no WireGuard handshake). This way, there will not be any surprises of big charges, which serverless services are usually infamous for. Another major difference is that UpVPN doesn't own servers and IPs. These servers are provisioned on one of the 5 cloud providers: Hetzner, DigitalOcean, Akamai Linode, Vultr, and AWS Lightsail. Because of its serverless design, UpVPN can expand locations as more cloud providers or cloud regions becomes available, without incurring upfront costs.

@gigapotential Appreciate the insights!

UpVPN's use of serverless computing for VPN is intriguing! Have you thought about offering real-time usage tracking for users on the pay-as-you-go plan? It would help them better manage their data consumption and avoid unexpected costs.
Himanshu
@blak3 thank you for the idea. Indeed this would be nice feature to add to the apps!
Emma Schneider
Hey @gigapotential, congrats on the launch of UpVPN! 🚀 Love to see serverless computing making VPN more accessible and cost-effective. Your use of modern Apple tech like SwiftUI is sure to impress. Can’t wait to try out the pay-as-you-go plan—finally a VPN that won’t break the bank! Looking forward to seeing how this grows on PH!
Himanshu
@emma_schneider thank you
Zackary Mooney
Is there any noticeable difference in security using this method versus regular VPNs?
Himanshu
@zackary_mooney UpVPN is built to be secure by design. The underlying VPN connection security relies on WireGuard itself. Moreover, WireGuard private key generated by UpVPN app never leaves your device, guaranteeing that your network traffic is securely encrypted between your computer and VPN server.

I’m excited to try UpVPN! It looks like it could make simple my online security routine
A. Skinner
I've always been a fan of the WireGuard protocol for its speed and security and seeing it combined with serverless architecture is pretty cool. That said I hope the pricing structure for the pay as you go model remains clear and simple. I've seen some services make this confusing for users over time, so transparency will be key.
Himanshu
@ayesha_skinner indeed, For pay as you go, you can know upfront how much a VPN session would cost with pricing calculator: https://UpVPN.app/pricing#pricin... For yearly plan its very easy peasy just $3.33/mo + tax
Sophia Gartner
It makes so much sense to have that flexibility. I’m eager to try it out, especially with the open-source approach!
