Very cool! Curious to know if you track any metrics around these teens' interest in Computer Science down the road. It probably hasn't been long enough but it would be awesome if you could say you increased the number of people choosing to take AP CS in high school or major in CS in college...
Alexandra Diracles
@gauri absolutely, currently we have built in assessments to track their retention and we are working with schools long term to develop those metrics.

The Vidcode team is consistently coming up with new, fun ways get young people, and in particular young women, interested in coding. This contest is the latest such example.
Alexandra Diracles
@howillia really appreciate that! Our aim is to constantly stay on top of what is relevant to teens.
Dani Grant
This is awesome
Alexandra Diracles
@thedanigrant you are awesome!

Very cool; go ITPers!
Alexandra Diracles
@joro1 Go ITP all the way! Thanks Joe!

Finally! A reason to code you can viscerally care about! Forget the coming technological singularity, job stability, or coming demand for coding knowledge as basic literacy! Just make my snaps mad trill already!

Super cool, @stateofrelate @lmtejedor! Congrats on the amazing TechCrunch ๐Ÿ“ฐ this week too: http://tcrn.ch/2aWubF6 ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

@mrtibbets so great to hear!

A meaningful endeavor to teach all teens to code, backed by a group of hardworking and talented founders. Excited to see as it grows!

As a female who studied CS in a large, public university, I definitely resonate with the imposter syndrome and even loneliness Vidcode is addressing. How do you think about bringing your program to co-ed schools/classes, since Vidcode is geared towards girls?
msmahliss
@juecd_ Hey Catherine! Vidcode was designed with girls in mind, but is used by all. Our approach makes CS accessible, personal, and relevant to teens who are traditionally left out of tech - girls and beyond. While proud to boast > 50% of our user base is female, much of our usage happens in co-ed classroom and afterschool environments.

This is how I would would have loved to get introduced to code. Making something visual. Death to the terminal black jack exercises. :)
Alexandra Diracles
@michaeldorian we couldn't agree more! :)
Bernardo Pรกdua
Those girls are going to change the way kids learn how to code. Looking forward to a world with more and better developers!
Alexandra Diracles
@bernardops Thanks for your support!
Devaki Raj
This approach to teaching teens how to code is really unique and easy to grasp! Really innovative!
Alexandra Diracles
@devaki_raj bring the awesome innovation of the tech world straight to the teens!
Vanessa Lee
This is awesome! There needs to be more coding tools out there that pre-teens and teens actually want to use after they're done with the cartoon games.
Alexandra Diracles
Thanks @vanessa_lee ! We agree. Teens are hungry for content that is at their age level creatively.
Alyssa Ong
Oh wow this is such a simple but effective idea to keep the youngsters engaged while learning how to code - love it!
Alexandra Diracles
@alyssaong1337 definitely. We find that teens stay engaged longer when they are coding in a medium they already know and love.

@stateofrelate - Great Idea - I'm a teen coder - been learning since the last 2 years! We should use this at http://hackclub.com!
Erica
I love this idea! Being able to actually build something usable as you're learning to code. Would love to see a video or gif of the product in use though!
Leandra
@ericodes We're having trouble adding it to the PH gallery, but here's a gif - http://static1.squarespace.com/s... ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hi All! Iโ€™m Alexandra, one of the co-founders of Vidcode. Vidcode teaches teens to code. We're starting with making it really easy for teens to upload social media content, code it and share with friends. Instead of online course aimed at teaching the coding basics, we are appealing to teens by having them learn to create things they are actually interested in - like video effects, memes and Snapchat filters. Using the platform is simple: upload media, code it and share with friends. In partnership with Snapchat weโ€™ve launched a code your own snapchat filter project. Selected filters will be featured on Snapchat and used by the entire Snapchat base. Itโ€™s really awesome for teens to have the opportunity to build something for the first time with code and output it to this huge audience. โ€‹Check out our website and try the demo. Thanks for your feedback. We are happy to answer any questions!
Alexandra Diracles
@thinkxl thanks so much Juan! Really appreciate it :)

I've been a huge fan of Vidcode for a while now, and my 7 year old is starting to use it!

@benjiwheeler Thanks so much Ben! Can't wait to see what they make ๐Ÿ˜„
