Vimeo Record is a screen and webcam recorder that allows users to easily record and instantly share video messages from their browser. This is available as a Chrome extension.
@pietervanmill yes!
a) you can record offline and download locally
b) when you're online, file is automatically uploaded to Vimeo, and you can download it like any other video on Vimeo
Here's more about this https://vimeo.zendesk.com/hc/en-...
Interesting for Vimeo to do this. Maybe an intermediate step before adding some sort of courses? Or some kind of consumer live streaming? Really curious to see.
Hi @markiyan_matsekh Very cool. We are heavy Loom users but interested in this. We have a paid Vimeo account for our co. If I want multiple people using the extension and have them all come back to one account, how does that work? it looks like your pricing page shows that users are capped at 10?
@ignition_tom great to hear this! you can definitely have multiple people recording to same Vimeo account, and you're right, the traditional plans limit team size to 10, but we have custom plans that go far beyond that to 10k+ team members. How big is your team?
Hey everyone and thanks @benln for hunting us!
I’m Lead PM for Vimeo Record, and along with @elaine_wang1 , @tfeener , and @spokoinoi_nochi I’m super excited to share our new product with the Product Hunt community!
We’re launching a screen and webcam recorder that allows you to easily record and instantly share video messages from your browser via Chrome extension.
Nobody wants to write a long email or jump on another Zoom call to describe something you could show your colleague in 10 seconds. And the pandemic is preventing us from having these quick interactions. Vimeo Record is built to help teams do their best work in the new world while maintaining creativity and collaboration. It’s great for demos, bug reports, support docs, design reviews, team updates. To me, Vimeo Record is like a new superpower, as it gives me a few more hours a day to communicate with my remote teams in other time zones
We’ve seen many Vimeo users upload screen recordings to their Vimeo accounts, and team collaboration has grown exponentially since the pandemic, so we combined the convenience of a simple screen recorder with the power of Vimeo’s end-to-end platform. Here are some feature highlights:
- Record screen & webcam and instantly upload your recordings to Vimeo to share with others
- Record as many videos as you want with unlimited recordings (up to two hours per recording)
- Store all your videos in one place - upload other videos along with screen recordings
- Get notified when someone watches your video
- Watch and manage recordings with a new clean UX
- Use all of Vimeo’s features with your recordings: analytics, embed customization, advanced privacy, SSO, team library, chapters, review, CTAs, organize videos into Showcases, and much more
We’re using Vimeo Record ourselves and loving it, and we are very much looking forward to your feedback and questions!
@pavlo_pedenko great question! Loom is a great tool but there are few key differences, some of which we learned from Loom users who upload their recordings to Vimeo:
1) With Vimeo you can record unlimited videos up to 2 hours each for free, while Loom gives you access to last 100 recordings, each up to 5 minutes
2) With Vimeo you can also upload non-recorded videos and keep all of your videos in one place, e.g. for your conference Growth Marketing Stage you could upload a professionally produced recap of last year's event, or a marketing video of your next event and share with your audience in a clean player. (you could livestream your conference with Vimeo too ;) )
3) as a paid Vimeo user you get access to many more cool features like Chapters, player customization, advanced privacy, video review, ability to organize recordings into beautiful Showcases and much more.
4) if you're part of a team or larger org, Vimeo has great tools for every part of the org and for team collaboration, video library, and enterprise-level video management.
overall I'd say Loom is good if you only need screen recordings and are OK with the limitations. Vimeo is great if you need to record more, work with other types of videos, or work in larger team.
But i'd love to hear your thoughts if you'll have a chance to try it out! We're very much looking to learn!
MM!
Thank you so much for this!
A couple of questions:
- Does the free account come with hi-definition (1080p) screen recording videos?
- Can the videos be directly uploaded to YouTube under the free plan? If not, can I download the videos in HD and upload it to YouTube? Is this a feature in any of the paid plans?
@amit_sarda yes to both! we don't limit quality of the videos your record, and we offer Publish to Social feature for free which allows you to upload from Vimeo to Youtube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and more social networks. Would love to hear your feedback once you try it out!
@markiyan_matsekh Wow. Thank you so much. One more question: Do these screen recordings count towards storage limits? For instance, towards the 500MB weekly quota under the free account?
Cool stuff, I'll give it a try vs the other tools I use for a similar use case. Does it auto-transcribe the recordings? E.g. can the player show automatic subtitles as the person speaks?
@p1f love this question! not yet but it will! The plan is to allow transcribe as well as search by captions, so you can more easily find your past videos
Hi, your app sounds interesting. I installed to try. Can we do GREEN SCREEN Chromakey with this ... like Zoom? Would be really helpful, I don't see any mention of Green Screen Chroma key on your website or in the app ... kindly advise ...
@markiyan_matsekh@balakumar_shanmugam annotations (chapters) are short term plans, while selected region is a consideration but not a plan yet. But happy to learn! Would you mind giving an example of how you'd use selected region?
@markiyan_matsekh@balakumar_shanmugam In many cases, I don't want the header of the page visible as this contains some personal info. I would like to start recording from below that region. If I record the whole tab/screen, then I'll have to edit the video after recording to remove the header, but with region selection, I can simply record and skip the editing part. Huge time saver especially when I have to make a lot of educational videos.
@kristin_vargas1 sorry to hear about it! I'll clarify just in case: any chance you have no cameras or no mics on your machine? If so, it's a bug we fixed yesterday and it's pending Chrome's approval. Otherwise - could you share logs with me at mm@vimeo.com (right click on extension icon and "download logs")
When uploading a ~15min 1080p mp4 to (normal) Vimeo it takes about 10-20min for the video to be converted/transcoded before it is ready to watch.
Does the same apply to Vimeo Record or is it like Loom where it is almost instantly ready to watch?
@roddutra_ this doesn't apply to Vimeo Record. We added an "instant playback" feature specifically for this product which reduces upload and processing time to seconds, so you can share your recording right after you're done with it (same as you send emails or slack messages). Would love to hear if it matches your expectations once you try it!
@roddutra_ just to clarify, video will not be transcoded within seconds, but it will be playable in original resolution you've recorded it with. transcoding will happen in background and other renditions will appear in same timeframe as they do for regular uploads
Our whole platform is built on Vimeo and I'd love to see if there are ways to integrate with Vimeo Record. Currently, we use and recommend Loom to our customers for camera/screen record so they can upload to eWebinar
This isn't working as i wanted. When i tried it, every time y reloaded the page the recording was stopped. every time i changed tab the recording was paused and my video didn't got uploaded. I was hoping a good contender to Loom. But Loom it's to good to be changed for vimeo record at this moment.
Trying VR now. My mike recorder stutters for first few seconds - why (Rode Desktop USB)? I seem unable to record from my webcam and then switch to share screen during the same recording session - am I missing something? Seems clunky so far?
@chris_pollitt not sure why mic stutters, but 2nd point is expected. Currently you can't switch from cam to screen during the recording, only before you start.
