More like "Help tech companies abuse H1B Visas more efficiently!". Before people tell me "but how else will they meet demand for engineers?", I am absolutely for the use of immigration to bring the world's brightest minds to the US, that's the original purpose of H1B visas.
What actually happens often though, is that these companies will list a job that requires 20 years experience and offer well below market salary, then throw their hands up and say "no one wants the job, oh well!". They then jump on H1B Visas and underpay/overwork those employees because they know they have no choice, they'll otherwise have to go back home.
That's not to say that this is something the Visabot team is responsible to solve. The legislation around these visas needs to be more robust and prevent the abuses I mentioned, as for how, beats me.
@ghobs91 glad that we share the same values like fair and transparent immigration laws and supporting government infrastructure ensuring that such laws are applied properly by anyone including the tech giants.
As a botmaker myself (HealthTap), I have to say: this is a fabulous application of a conversational interface. Well done guys and thanks for the hunt Chris!
This is great! There is so much talk/news/misinformation about immigration out there (not just in the US) that we often lose sight that there's also a ton of red tape and people willing to take advantage of those that want to immigrate - VisaBot looks like an excellent way to cut through that. I'll be excited to hear about other countries and visa types.
@danrubins Many thanks, Dan. We're truly excited about helping talents and other immigrants around the world and have them enjoy moving between countries rather than suffer from legal paperwork.
Great work, guys. I'm my acquaintances' immigration bot, so I can see how valuable this can be. The screenshots on your website have a number of spelling and grammar errors though - do you think addressing those might figure into your agenda sometime?
@ram_srinivasan Many thanks, Ram. Yes, that could be the case and we'll certainly have a closer look on our web-site. By now we were focused on the bot.
Wow, thanks Chris!
Hi Product Hunters!
We're all excited about this first launch.
Visabot is a robot helping professionals relocate to the United States. He is not an immigration lawyer, so he is trying to be fast, easy and responsive. He will cover more immigration questions in the future. For now, Visabot can help you prolong you stay in the U.S. for 6 months if you're a tourist . If you're a talented person, Visabot can tell your chances to get a visa for extraordinary people.
Please test Visabot and tell us what else you want me to see him doing in immigration, appreciate your feedback!
Many thanks!
This is such a cool idea and concept, specially during a time when many are having questions about Visas. But it needs to be multilingual, and definitely have a Spanish component. As an immigrant (and citizen) from South America you guys don't know how many questions and doubts people from that region have! Let me know if you ever need help with that language. I'd love to contribute to something that could benefit thousands of people.
@fernandobits HI Fernando, great that you raised this issue and yes, Spanish will most likely be the next language of Visabot. We know that thousands and thousands of people from South America want to travel to the USA for a long or a short time and we're going to improve our service to help them even better. Your offer to help is accepted with thanks!
