Love it! I've been known to be a GIF sender... and see no reason why I won't start sending these. I love that it's another Northeast Ohio startup making noise, too. #MidwestLove

Gifs are great but when I send my Darth Vader Noooooooo!!! clip I want the full impact of James Earl Jones deep Nooooooo!!!!!

Pros:

Fun (and sorta addictive) way to share clips with friends!

Cons:

Continue to build the clip library.

We killed the website 😕

@grberk https://vlipsy.com/vlip/django-u... Not the hug of death! 😉 Looks good on our end - good for you?
Glenn Berkshier
@chrisnickless Connecting to the website at work always goes to https://vlipsy.com/500 - I've tried in several different browsers, and different computers. Maybe our firewall is messing with our connection. At home, it comes up fine. Weird.

@chrisnickless So I just installed the app (actual app and Apple Messages). I see no way to login to my account. Am I missing something? How do I get to my favorites I saved on the website?
Chris Nickless
@grberk awesome! Spot on question that syncs with our roadmap. Favorites syncing and social auth can be expected in an upcoming update to the apps.

Vlipsy is like GIPHY, but for video clips 👏 I (and most the Product Hunt team) are prolific GIF senders, so pumped to try this out. @chrisnickless and team: what inspired you to focus on this problem?
Phillip Yang
So excited about this product and being hunted on Product Hunt! Congrats guys and looks amazing!
Chris Nickless
Thanks @geekyyang - appreciate the love!

I've already made several "Vlips" and broadcast them out to friends/coworkers using the Vlipsy iOS keyboard app and Slack. The website is really simple, straightforward and easy to use.

Pros:

• It's fun

• More expressive than a gif

• It's pronunciation isn't devisive.

• Best of all, you can make any youtube video a Vlip

Cons:

It plays a clip 3 times in a row. Sometimes that's annoying.

Wish they had Slack integration. (update: Now Vlipsy integrates with Slack)

@vladcalus Woo! Family 🤗

Giphy with sound. Any issues with copyright @chrisnickless ?
Chris Nickless
@ravsydney Thanks for the question Ravi! We approach copyright no different from other similar services in our industry. We're already in talks with numerous studios for official channels and are excited about what our platform can do to repurpose snippets of long form video for use in conversations.

Their Farmer Fran / Waterboy instagram post is a perfect example of why I need this in my life. A+

Pros:

FINALLY an option that does our punchlines justice- it's like half the joke was missing w/o audio (let's be honest, it's just not the same).

Cons:

Unsure if you can use it in email format, but this would be a prime way to uplevel e-newsletters for humor-centric brands.

Hey Guys, I really love this product - I just downloaded it and tried it out for the first time. I can totally see how it could replace GIPHY. Great work - I'll continue using it!
Chris Nickless
@benmlevy wow that's high praise - thank you! We love GIFs and can't imagine a world without them. We're on a mission to make vlips (video clips) the next great expressive media and envision a world where emojis, GIFs and vlips all serve an important role in advancing our digital communication.
Ben Levy
@chrisnickless Definitely understand that vision - two pieces of feedback from a few friends that I shared Vlips with. It doesn't seem to be consistently intuitive that the sound needs to be on to get the full sound of the clip and some of the time it shows up with the video in message and other times with a link to the Vlipsy site. I'm assuming you are aware, but is there a way to ensure you never have to click out of iMessage to get the experience? And an ability to overlay some type of more significant icon to indicate that people should turn their sound on? Hope that feedback is helpful.
Chris Nickless
@benmlevy super helpful - thanks for sharing. The icon overlay you're talking about is an Apple UI over the inline video so I can't say how likely it is that will change, but we're definitely evaluating the UX we can control to make this more prevalent for the user. It's still a bit early, but the adoption/playback of inline short form video is a hot industry topic among messengers - we look to play a big role in shaping consistency for the user across devices and platforms.

Hey Product Hunt! I'm Co-Founder/CEO at Vlipsy and pumped to be here. We made Vlipsy as a way to easily share your favorite quotes as they were meant to be heard, with sound 🔊. We love sending quotes to each other, but the process for finding and clipping what we wanted has always been tedious and annoying. Today, we are proud to announce Vlipsy makes sending short form video as easy as sending an emoji or GIF. We’ve just launched our full apps on iOS and Android! Other messaging integrations are soon to follow 😀. Here are a few features we offer in the apps: • Easily search by expression, emotion or theme • Share directly to any social media or messaging platform • Playlists for quick responses I’m here to answer any questions and welcome any thoughts/feedback you might have about the product/space.

Hey everyone! I'm Matt, co-founder of Vlipsy. Thanks for hunting us, Nick! We have an easy creator on our site (mobile coming soon) where you can create your own vlips from a YouTube video. We used to always try to send YouTube videos in messaging and it was too bloated - timestamps in the URL helped but it was far from perfect. We built Vlipsy to solve this and work more like GIFs. We would love to get your feedback. We'll be on Product Hunt all day today answering questions - ask away!
Todd Federman

Way cooler to message with sound versus just a GIF

Pros:

Super fun and easy

Cons:

More clips

Shannon Lyons

Although this is an amazingly fun way to communicate, I think about the opportunity for advertisers to create content in a different way. If content is funny and memorable - the potential reach on VLIPSY could be significant.

Pros:

Once you VLIPSY you can't go back. In those moments where sarcasm is lost in translation through text- VLIPSY saves the day!

Cons:

So many VLIPS, so little time.
