Webstudio Beta is our first production-grade release.
You can build a static site with Builder UX inspired by Webflow, improved by us. Publish it for free to Webstudio Cloud. Enjoy performance of CloudFlare Workers and modern front-end architecture.
Hey everyone!
Iโm Oleg, founder of Webstudio. My team and I are super thrilled to launch Webstudio Beta https://apps.webstudio.is, the open-source visual development tool that will enable designers to create sites they love with the features that they deserve.๐โจ
We have been building this solution since mid-2022, and with this launch, we are finally ready to unveil it and get the communityโs feedback!
๐งฎ The Webstudio Experience
With Webstudio, you can directly interact with HTML & CSS to build more creative and capable websites. Whether it is for a simple landing page or an entire web app, we want Webstudio to be your canvas. Our core vision is to give limitless powers to web designers and visual developers, and we are building forward with that mindset.
No platform lock-in, designer-oriented UX, unbridled creativity, and extreme performance- at Webstudio, we are committed to providing it all. ๐ช๐ผ
๐งฎ What sets Webstudio apart
We have designed our core architecture with these priorities in mind:
๐ก Community-first approach to development: Got some ideas for improvement? Share them directly with our core team https://github.com/webstudio-is/...!
๐งฉ Ownership and Privacy: No Google tracking by default and free GDPR-compliance hosting with the option to self-host. You own what you build, whether it is your site or your data.
โก๏ธ Performance: Got a need for speed? At Webstudio, you will get WebP-optimized images, a workers-based cloud, and super efficient rendering thanks to https://remix.run.
๐ช Design Tokens- yep, no more classes-related headaches.
๐ฐ Pricing- You can build a production site or experiment for free inside Webstudio. We only monetize high-traffic sites and the advanced capabilities that are primarily used for client work.
And thatโs not all! Here are some other upgrades that we are working on and will be making public this year:
๐ฏ Real-time Collaboration: With this upgrade, multiple designers and visual developers will be able to collaborate in real-time on Webstudio at no extra charge, just like in Figma!
๐ป Backend Versatility- no more limits to what CMSs and databases you can use. You will use CMSs like WordPress, Sanity, Airtable, or Notion as if they were built in, even though they are separate UIs!
๐ Native Extensibility- You get to add features as if they were built into the platform through React components and plugins.
And last but not least โ itโs all open-source. ๐
๐งฎ Whatโs coming next
The Beta Version is only the beginning - the static site builder that is not so static technically. With these upcoming features, you will soon witness the full power of the architecture:
๐ AI Integration
๐ Figma Tokens Sync
๐ UI Kits
๐ CMSs and Databases
๐ Versioning
๐ Real-Time Collaboration
๐ Interactions and Animations
โฆ and a lot more. Stay tuned!

@oleg008 Can I import/integrate an entire Svelte UI component library like Skeleton.dev into Webstudio and use the Svelte components just like native Webstudio components? That would be a killer feature!
@fliponeup Our goal is to become completely framework agnostic, but we are not there yet, first UI kits will be React-based, then once we are happy with how they work and fully customizable, we will open an API for everyone to integrate with other frameworks.
Think of it as of marketplace
While there are still a few features missing, things are definitely looking promising!.
I'm truly excited about the potential that Webstudio holds and can't wait to see it reach its full capabilities! (we definitely need a Webflow alternative)
Congratulations Oleg. This looks awesome. It's exciting to see how polished and refined this looks. Polished design is definitely not something I would have associated with open source in the past but that is changing quickly!
Can you share more about how the Design Tokens feature works?
The team behind Webstudio is really amazing! And the fact that their work is open sourced makes it even more amazing!
Wishing you good luck with the lunch of Webstudio!
@oleg008 Great initiative. Couple questions, is it possible to export the code for hosting on our servers? Is it currently possible for multiple people to work on a same project (not necessarily at same time).
@swami_t We are still working on a CLI to make export easy.
Multiple people can work on the same project by sharing a link with build permission enabled. Not simultaneously though until we release multiplayer.
@oleg008 For now, we just need static HTML files for a simple newsletter format. Is that possible now? Or any idea when it will be? (sorry, I dont know what CLI is, :P), no need for any database/CMS funcationality as such.
@swami_t newsletter as in sent per email? Emails have a special set of restrictions. It's not just modern html/css. We want to support this use case but not yet.
@oleg008 sorry, its not quite clear. So, we're making a standalone digital Magazine each month. It has about 15-20 pages. (https://isha.sadhguru.org/magazi..., like a little linear microsite magazine. Its static as such, no database or anythying. We just export the project from Webflow and then upload it to our servers. Is something like this possible? If not yet, any idea on timeline?
@swami_t yes this will be possible with the upcoming CLI release, no timeline comment, but we are working on it as we speak, so its a matterof weeks/months.
Super cool! Excited to try this out.
๐ฑ One comment: Love that this is an open source product... in the spirit of that, you may want to consider allowing for email signup in the app as opposed to forcing the choice between Github and Google. Seems like it would be in line with the open source ethos to decouple those companies from using the product.
@puppycodes Absolutely. In fact In am maybe ok with github as it is being GDPR compliant but I don't love the fact that its microsoft. Google was just necessity as we didn't have time to build other options yet and designers usually don't have github.
We will be revisiting login that's for sure.
@deandaman There is no special automation that would turn a website into RTL and there is no yet multilingual features, but basic stuff like css "direction" in typography and other general purpose style properties useful for rtl sites.
That being said it would be really cool to have something automated like https://github.com/MohammadYoune... but it hasn't been a priority so far.
A huge congrats for the launch @oleg008 & team! An open source alternative to Webflow was long overdue - very excited to see how Webstudio evolves over the coming years. :)
