@gillespoupardin@rrhoover how would you rank your product compared to an Echo? Looking to buy it to test at our office (or do you do partnership deals for startups having a similar vision to Whyd's? ;-) )
How do you guys deal with audio commands when the music is blasting? From my experience with echo, once the volume is past 5 or so, you have to yell next to it to get it to hear you or turn down the volume manually.
@zolihonig We’re using noise-cancellation at the hardware level, taking the music stream (ogg, flac...) and throwing it back to our noise cancellation processor so that it knows in real time what is music and what is voice. When it blasts too strong and user is far, voice control efficiency diminishes, but overall our voice recognition will work great in most environments, whether you’re alone at home or having some friends over.
Hi folks!
Two years ago, we started working on a new product: a voice-controlled speaker with a beautiful design and powerful sound.
Today, we're incredibly excited to unveil the new Whyd speaker!
It's a product born from our community, we're really building something for people like us -- who appreciate great sound and good design, and want a speaker that’s easy to use.
You can control your music by speaking directly to Whyd. Say “Play my summer playlist” or “Play M.I.A.”. You don’t need your phone and it's compatible with your favorite music services.
The speaker has very powerful audio capabilities. It delivers crystal clear sound with deep and dramatic bass at 360 degrees - enabled by 4 full range drivers and one dedicated subwoofer.
We've launched a beautiful website today and we are starting our pre-orders at a very friendly price.
And for the Product Hunt community, we’re offering a $50 discount on the preorder price! All you need to do is enter the code “PRODUCTHUNT” at checkout.
Thanks for your feedback and we're here to answer any question!
@brackin Our speaker definitely sounds better than the Sonos Play 3. The audio configuration is one dedicated subwoofer + 4 full range drivers. You can have more details about the audio configuration here: https://whyd.com/tech-specs/
Awesome guys. I've tried an old prototype last year and i was already really impressed. Actually using Alexa (convenient) but the sounds quality is not their focus. Can't wait to try the new version of Whyd. Well done team 🔥👊🏻
Great move @gillespoupardin! You guys were building a music streaming social network a few years ago. How did you decide to make the move?
Also, top-notch video. Would love to have the songs! 😬
@hfauq hey Hugo - yeah, the social network gathers a community 100,000+ producers, concert venues, DJs, bloggers, artists and music lovers around the world. It's a great place for music curators to collect and share tracks they love. But we never found a way to make it a sustainable business. So we decided to Open source the platform and give the keys to the community.
We were unsatisfied with the existing home speakers on the market. Some of them have good audio quality but are completely lagging in software, and they're not pretty. They're giving a "black plastic box” vibe with clunky mobile applications and connections to streaming services. We've spent the past two years building the speaker we music lover want. A speaker that combines beautiful design, high-audio quality and the convenience of voice control.
Here's the track list:

Thanks!
Great take on speaker with amazing design. While being user of Amazon Echo and Sonos I know what this speaker brings to the table but Unfortunately there are few thing stopping me from pre ordering. Like,
- Google Home and Sonos's new speaker is just around the corner so I would like to see their take before going for Whyd.
- Pre Ordering from Newbie without any reliable mediator like Kickstarter or Indigogo where the item's shipping date is 5-6 month away.
Whyd makes a voice-controlled speaker that's beautifully designed and has powerful sound. You can play music by talking directly to the speaker. Say “Play my morning mix” or “Play Drake”. You don’t need your phone. I've heard the sound that comes out of it and it sounds really good.
