Interesting concept.
How does it work?
I mean, where does the art come from?
Can people from all over the world use the app? If I'm in Europe, am I able to buy things from US?
@danflopes Hi there, I am Matthias - cofounder at wydr - wydr is an open platform and so the art comes from everyone that wants to participate from all over the world. And yes, you can buy art from any artist from all over the world.
@jenleeny Artsy does a great job for their audience. Wydr isn't about the traditional fine art market and therefore doesn't need to follow the rules set by that industry. Wydr has no curator to tell you what's good and expensive. We are connecting you directly with the art work. You decide what you like.
Artists get feedback on what users like, and users see what’s hot.
Just checked Wydr, such a great idea. Always delighted to bring art closer to what it is rather than what it should be perceived as - by the "experts". Your product definitely opens this direct communication and I will definitely recommend it :)
This is awesome. I love how unique each piece is and that you're letting the user decide what they like. Definitely going to upload some of my paintings today.
Hi all
As part of our studies we had to generate and evaluate different business ideas. In several talks and experiments we found out that we both liked art but were unhappy about how to find it. We like art and to get inspired. However, we both rarely visited galleries as it is just not our kind of environment. I have bought most of my paintings abroad while traveling. With wydr we bring a broad selection of worldwide artists to the users without anybody telling the users what art is or what to like. And there was the frequent use of Tinder... Also built around the first visual impression... 😄
Additonally friends of our that are artists can’t show their work at galleries and have a hard time promoting themselves online. They weren’t abel to show their work to a public. Connecting the many very good artists with the many people interested in art, is one of the key reasons for wydr.
wydr launched in January in Switzerland, but quickly grew across Europe and is now operating globally. Our user is a typical Gen X/Y who doesn’t want to be told what to like! wydr changes how people interact with art. No curator, as all artworks are community curated and there’s an algorithm running in the background to understand what the community likes but also what the individual likes. Based on these (and a few other things), paintings are more likely to be shown.
When clicking on a painting, you see its details including the community rating on a scheme of one to five wydr-heARTs. Artists get feedback on what users like, and users see what’s hot.
Let us know what you think about it or how we can improve. Happy to answer your questions.
Thanks, Timo
