Discover new pespectives from Australia, Iceland or even South Africa. Youpendo is a social app that is entirely based on interactions with random people around the world so that you can inspire & get inspired by people you else would've never met.
Recently got off Instagram and been using this app for the past 3 months. I love that I can just share without trying to impress anyone.
The app is about spreading positivity and brightening up someone else's day rather than just showing off how great your life is.
It's so creative concept! It reminds me the app called Plag a while ago. It was a social app that enables my post spreading the world like a virus map. They pivoted to a blockchain based app, and then closed. Anyway good luck with your new app :D
@marinajan2 We don't have direct messaging, yet. All interactions are based on random encounters. Once you catch a paper plane, you are able to connect with the person by following her or by replying to the paper plane.
Hi Makers and Hunters!
I barely (try to ) use social media myself. After blindly scrolling through my feed, I'm feeling unhappy and empty. There is so much pressure, judgment, and social cost attached to sharing content with my friends & followers on social media. This never really allowed me to be my authentic self and share things that I care about.
My best friend/Co-Founder @chahin_aghrim1 and I realized over the past year that oftentimes it'd be easier for us to be our authentic selves with strangers we just met whether on an airplane or even at a cafe.
On Youpendo we can share inspiration, positivity, and dig deeper than we'd normally do on social media. Our main goal is to create a social experience that creates a safe space where we can be our true selves.
As mentioned, every message you send out or receive comes from a random person. We tried to visualize this experience by designing our app around paper planes. If you threw a paper plane from a building into a busy street, youβd be curious to see where it went, who got it. You could throw a paper plane multiple times from the same building and it would land at a different spot every single time. So, whenever you send out an image or a short video (throw out a paper plane), you don't know who's going to watch & interact with it (catch a paper plane).
What should we build for this app next?
Thank you for all the feedback and suggestions. We're looking forward to making improvements/enhancements/addressing feature requests. So thankful for the support of this community! π
@monu_gautam Hi Monu, we're programming in React Native so that we can launch in the Google Play Store as soon as possible. As of now, our Android version is still too buggy and not good enough performance wise. We're still trying to validate a couple of assumptions in the IOS version. When that's done, we will start focusing on getting the Android version ready for public. :)
I've been using this app for a little while now, and i am absolutely amazed at the quality, and the vision of the team. I love the "genuineness" of this app and I highly recommend you download and check it out!
This looks great! Is this platform more geared towards sharing ideas with individuals or the community as a whole? As in, do you find more users are sending out messages directly or posting to their feed? If so, is that feed private or public?
@ericahal Thank you Erica! It's more geared towards sharing ideas with the whole community and inspiring people across the world. As of now, you can share content by either sending out a paper plane to the whole community or replying to a particular paper plane. Everything, you do in the app is public and can be seen by any other user in the app. Hope this helps π
Awesome platform to connect with people around the globe especially given the current times. I am sure this provides some really unique insights into the lives of strangers without the pressure that come when posting to a group of friends on the more common social networks.
just curious, is it work for both iOS and android? cos i just got a new phone which is work on Android system, trying to get used to it...if i switch to the new phone i need to download all the apps i've been using for years from google play...
