(I have been using Ablo for over a year, basically since it came out. Long review.)
Ablo, in theory, is a fantastic way to "meet" new people from all around the world. Being able to chat with strangers and understanding them (thanks to the automatic translation) sounds wonderful at first.
And even though I would recommend this website/app, there are many problems with it. So let's dive in.
For example, I just had to block and report a man because he told me he is "looking for a beautiful friend like me, to have s#x with sometimes." Now, this man is from a foreign country. This man doesn't speak English. This man is using this fantastic (in theory) app to have S#X ON THE INTERNET. (However ridiculous that sounds.)
Another experience I constantly have: even though it is clearly stated Ablo isn't a dating app (how could it be?), MANY men use it for that purpose. I am so, so tired of having to argue with strangers from foreign countries about the fact that I'm just trying to have a DECENT CONVERSATION and I'm not chasing foreign d#ck.
Let me give you a third example. I'm just chatting like a normal person, then I get a marriage proposal. Out of the blue. After writing 15 words. And, unfortunately, these men think this is okay and acceptable. Because they think me living in England means marrying me would help them get out of whatever country they live in. How is this tolerated?
Now, I do appreciate the fact that once I report someone, most of the time they get suspended or deleted straight away. BUT I still think there should be a way to actually filter these pred#tors.
Also, I find it super annoying that Ablo is basically forcing you to video chat. I'm not interested in that. I have been chatting since 2001 and I never wanted to stare at some stranger on camera. Why am I not able to disable this feature?
If I wanted to do that, I'd be on chatroulette. I would probably see less d#ck on there than I would on Ablo.
You are probably wondering why I would recommend something like this? Well, because, like most chat sites, even though it has flaws there's still decent people on here who are ready to just have a decent conversation. And sometimes it's worth it to fight off the horrible people to find the nice ones.
(But, if you are a woman, do keep everything I've said in mind. Especially if you aren't experienced in online chats. Just be careful.)
