The idea is fantastic, (I bought a 3-pack).
The device is really well-done, small and great PIR and accelerometer hardware.
The battery life is MUCH shorter than advertised! Even sitting disarmed it doesn't last more than about three weeks on a charge, and there's no power switch to shut it off when not in use.
The smartphone app is where the idea really fall short, however.
The interface is very basic and feels like it was launched prematurely. The functions are there but the interface feels like a first effort that really needs some focused refinement.
- The first clue is that the device is logoed as "Mimic" but the app calls it "Mimiq"
- When the Mimic is armed in "presence" mode and the smartphone is within bluetooth range, after an hour there's about a 50% chance (in my testing) that it simply won't trip and alarm when someone moves in front of it
- The LoR-WAN coverage is supposed to be live in my area, but doesn't work at all. Once my phone is out of BT range the Mimic just doesn't do anything at all.
I've tried all three of my units and they all suffer the same issues so it's not just a bad unit.
I've tried reaching out to Mimic for service as well as responding to a survey they sent out, and after two months have heard no reply.
I had high hopes, but it looks like this cool thing is actually a dud.
