Although personally I see no practical reason to use this app myself but I admire the creative and funny concept behind the app. Sometimes from such a crazy ideas are born astonishing things! As for the monetization, IMHO you could offer core functionality of the app itself for free but have in-app purchase options. For instance, "Buddy list" could be a premium feature to use to continue...
