It's the YouTube algorithm's fault. It fed me a video on music theory. Non-musical me watched and thought "I can code that". So I did.
2 years later and I've released (soft launched) an app... and got addicted to learning the Piano along the way.

First (and so far only) paying customer was last month. Someone emailed me asking for a feature in my (free/ad supported) app. I had dismissed the feature because it was outside of my expected target market but as it wasn't much work (under a day) I added it. Took me longer to integrate with the Google Play store than add the feature! Emailed him back when it was released and he bought it.
How did you get your first paying customers?

Good thread. Made me really think about a concise description.

I randomly came across a mindset called "no zero days" which worked for my motivation on my side project.

The Youtube algorithm dished out a video on music theory. I was fascinated by it and thought "I can code that"... so I did as I find coding a great way to learn a domain.
The result is an app called Seed Loops. It generates music given a random seed (which doesn't sound as bad as you'd think). I'm at MVP stage with lots of ideas that didn't make the cut. Recently published it to Googe Play...
