What kind of community do you want this PH discussions forum to be?
It's been really exciting to see how active this Discussions page has become over the last several months. From the updated page format and features to the increase in the # of posts- it's become like a mini Reddit-like space, but for makers and short-form content :)
As members of this community- what do you wish to see more of on this page? I personally love reading about the experiences of...

Are you on Indie Hackers?
I recently joined Indie Hackers, and am in the process of learning more about its community. In your experience, how have you used the platform, and how have you contributed/benefitted from it? Are there any best practices for engaging with other founders and makers?

A question that never gets old. For me a tip that has helped is setting a 5 minute timer. I tell myself I'll just work on a task that I dread for 5 minutes, and that is it. A lot of times, I end up working way past the 5 minute mark. I think the issue for me is getting started on a task and getting over that initial anxiety hump.

Creativity requires courage. Where do you find your courage?
Hi everyone, I recently heard this quote and though it is often used to talk about the arts, I think it applies to many makers and marketers like us, who put our soul and sweat into a product and release it for the world to see.
Do you have a fear of showcasing what you have created to others? How have you overcome this fear?

Very good point, especially true if its an app that you don't particular enjoy on a regular basis. I am less bothered by a notification from an app I enjoy (ex: Instagram- though that is also tied to my relationships) than another app I downloaded and rarely use.

I've definitely struggled to stay motivated when working from home. Daily scrums through zoom every morning (with everyone's cameras on) have definitely helped me stay more on track. It also helps to occasionally leave the house to take a quick walk, just to lighten up your mood a bit!
What's the hardest part of working remotely for you?

What a great concept- I almost made an excel a few years ago after graduation to help me keep in touch with my college friends, but didn't go through with it because I knew it was a hassle. This is a much simpler and more efficient method. Thank you for this!

Great question! When I'm working from home, I'll usually take a short 5 min break to get some snacks and some water every hour or so. We recently just got back to the office, and I will usually take a 20 min break in the afternoon to go take a walk around the block. On Fridays my coworkers and I will take a 30min-1hour break to have coffee and chat, if our schedules allow it.

Love this question! I used to listen to a lot of Mac Ayres. I tend to stick to songs that I know well, that way I can zone in an out without getting too distracted. If I listen to anything unfamiliar I will just start paying attention to the music to get the lyrics lol.
Also, I've found that music from brain fm helps for focus when I am working.

My resolution for 2020 was to find a job and a community of people I enjoy. Thankfully, I got both!
Other things I am thankful for:
1. My family and friends
2. Living with other people to keep me company during quarantine
3. A WFH job
4. A chance to be more introspective and relax (and having it be socially acceptable to stay in bed for days)
5. Zoom. Oh where would we all be without zoom.
6....
How many resolutions did you achieve in 2020? And what are all the things you are thankful for?
