As much as I love self-hosting, it still requires a lotta technical knowledge and upkeep. Something like Scoutflo Deploy that makes it easier goes a long way in helping the adoption of open source software, which allows more and more people to see the benefits of it.
Making open source and self-hosting more accessible is incredibly valuable, so I hope SD is around for a long time.

I'm a simple manβI see open source, and I upvote.
Seriously though, love this initiative. I actually have a public directory of what I call CookieSlayers (cookieslayers.com), which are companies, products, and services that respect user privacy. All of them are open source (as of this writing). They're not all commercial products, but many are. We can probably discover a few more to add to...

Your last question in particular is interesting, because what is "truly original and unique"?
Is there anything original anymore? What's considered to be "unique"? Isn't everything an adaptation of something from the past? Isn't everything inspiration from something that was created before?

@johnonolan β this looks awesome. Been wanting to try Ghost, but I can't access the Ghost website at all because it blocks VPNs. Why is this, and is there any way to access it without a VPN? Can't image I'm the only one in the VPN boat unable to access Ghost. π

Nope. Data privacy and security are never absolute, so storing that fingerprint, even if it can't generate the "original" picture again, still carries a huge risk.
Plus, I don't see how someone couldn't leverage the unique face print in order to generate the original picture again (or at least something extremely close to it).
People keep pushing this notion of trading convenience for...
