If I understand this correct, publishers are then "stuck" paying you a distribution fee per subscriber in perpetuity? Hmm... I guess it's all a numbers game, if you can truly deliver a big group of subscribers, quickly. Interested to see how this plays out and if it will be quality subscribers or just folks who are there to get the freebies (and not be motived to click through in email links...
