This is often a tricky one because humans are, well.. human. We are the main character of our own story, so as an HR professional, I have found that sitting everyone together when a topic elicits strong emotions, doesn’t work out well.
Instead I usually do the following:
- actively listen to each individual
- when actively listening I also try to find the root cause and the underlying...

I help business with their people strategy and a mistake I see so often is around hiring!
- Hire someone they love/trust, with no clear understanding of the role they will play in the business long term.
- Hire an expert and an expert's salary, without ensuring that 1. there's a long term need, 2. the business can sustain that positions monetary inflation throughout the years

Hey @patpijanowski , late to the party, but I have helped many a startup build their teams and absolutely LOVE this topic!

Is your team remote? For remote workplaces I have implemented things like BINGO Fridays, Happy Hour Fridays, and even tea/coffee brunches, where I send out curated baskets to the team with teas and coffees so they can all share in a zoom call. Ends up being so fun!

A clear understanding of where you want to go in the next year-3 years but being flexible on how you want to get there is key I think. This allows you to have a vision but also to learn from those around you! Once you have your vision, finding people that inspire you, whose strengths compliment your opportunities and who you see a level of humbleness in, will give you the special sauce!
