Sometimes it is extremely needed. For example, in the U.S you can't go to the club or buy alcohol unless you're 21. And not everyone wants to give up real data while buying stuff from the internet. Because data can be stolen and then you will find out, that someone had a credit on your name and you gonna pay for it. I have a fake ID for this reason. I don't trust sellers from the internet....
