  • 2 years at a fast paced start up is greater than 10 years at a large corporate. Agreed?

The experience you gain at a fast paced start up is far more superior than the experience you gain at corporate, sometimes it's simply exponential in nature. I have felt is myself having worked at a start up and a corporate through my career! Have you gone through that experience as well? What are your thoughts?

As a Mathematician, i would say: "Math rules can change. Sometimes It's 1 > 2" But of course, It depends on which Startup which Corporate and working with wich teammates.

As someone who has A LOT of friends in the corporate world, I have to agree. I feel like there are people that rely on the work that I do, otherwise my company won't be successful. That gives me the necessary motivation to push hard on certain projects when otherwise I wouldn't. I also think that I get to learn about a lot more than just the field I am in, allowing me to develop more than just one skill. My friends report low job satisfaction and feeling like they have no impact, which is fair enough as they are quite young. I wouldn't say everyone should work at a start up, but if learning is the goal, then that's the route I would take.

Wow! that's a great question! I totally recommend internships at large corporations to learn as much as possible. And then to involve more in smaller and smaller companies. Scaling processes can be learned way easier at larger companies. Startups involve a lot of trial and error.

@valilus Startups do involve trail and error so you have to learn and adapt really quick! I think that brings lot of learning. I do agree that things at scale work differently but I feel that is something people can get by finding a high scale startup as well right?
