  • AI wrapper startups - a trend or a fad?

Building an AI-based startup sounds like a cool thing now. But from what I have seen, more and more people are trying their hands at the same thing - building an AI Wrapper. For example, talk with your data, build cohesive imageries, etc. But I wonder how far this would last and how big this would go. What if a bigger player like ChatGPT builds these nuances? And what about the crowded market with the strong USP which would end up being the distribution and specialization? So what do you think? Are AI-wrapper startups a trend or a fad? If you ask me, there are gonna be some significant players and many small ones. Just like what happened with SaaS in the last decade or so. Whatever the case, AI is gonna remain tall for all the times to come.

Some features big players simply will not build because the main business for them will be selling API to developers, thus, they won't harm founders who actually bring them an audience and money.

Depends on what value your "wrapper" is generating... Are you significantly improving the experience for your target users? Does your "wrapper" contain significant IP that goes beyond prompt engineering?

I'm curious about the responses here. How can we be sure whether certain AI wrappers won't become useful in the upcoming months?
