Big Name Drop - Marketing

You are a Startup and you want to get noticed. You might consider "calling out" a big competitor in your space. Is this a good idea?
I see some are doing it directly on their homepage even.
Examples:
https://riverside.fm/ (vs Zoom)
https://www.medusajs.com/ (vs Shopify)
And I'm sure there are more examples of this. Would you do it? Why yes, why no?
Tome personally, it seems like a tempting strategy :)

It makes sense if you are second to the market. It requires you to have a well-known competitor. A good proxy to check the potential of the tactic is to look at google trends for terms like "alternative to zoom".
I would recommend starting by testing this tactic on comparison websites like capterra and g2. This will show you if the tactic can work. You can then move on to build up dedicated alternative pages on your website.

@fabian_maume Thank you for the advice man. Cheking G2 and Capterra right now. There is also SaaS Hub on which we are already on, so if you have a SaaS that one is also a good one to check. :)

@davor_kolenc G2 & Capterra are the 2 main players.
After that: Saas hub, https://alternative.me/ & https://alternativeto.net/ are nice to have.
