I worked with startups who started their marketing with ads. And they were very unsatisfied. They didn't nail the fundamentals. I worked with startups who nailed the fundamentals and had amazing results with LinkedIn ads. So, everything depends on how you run ads and the data you use. Do you target the right people with the right message? How do you measure the results? Today, I hunted Dreamdata Audience Hub. You can work with B2B customer data effectively. Build accurate first-party audiences based on activities performed, stages reached, or properties sourced from your CRM. No need to learn and use SQL. And you can send these lists directly to Google and LinkedIn Ads. We'd love to get your feedback and to get your support! https://www.producthunt.com/posts/dreamdata-audience-hub

IMO: Marketing a product that doesn't have a differentiator is like punching air. Start with product.

In order to run ads effectively we gotta have a well-define positioning. So before ads, content and SEO should be prioritized. What do you think?

Yes, we ran targeted ads on social media platforms and saw a significant increase in traffic and conversions, with a 30% uptick in the first month alone. It was a game-changer for our product's visibility and user engagement.

Ads are tricky in the beginning because IMHO you need: - clear ad copy - right targeting - clear messaging on your website and usually one of the three is done bad in the early startup days. I'd only recommend running ads once you figure out who your customers (really!) are, where they hang out (and if you can target them) and then make sure your website is clearly describing how they benefit from your offer. With that being said, having lots of money to burn can speed up the process of finding the above through ads as well.

@fscholz this is great advice. What is your approach to figure out the right targeting the "where they hang out"? Any tips or strategies for doing this?

@sevnightingale Ideally you would already be very familiar with the industry and that often comes along with knowing where they hang out. Here are some more ways to find them: - Social Media: say you find one person of your target customer audience on Twitter, check who they are following or have interacted with recently - if you find more similar folks keep doing this until you discover the main people of their bubble - Reddit / forums: search for industry related terms or advice on google and add "forum" or "site:reddit" to your query to uncover niche-related subreddits and forums, these might be good places to search for your audience - Tools: there are specific tools like SparkToro that can help you discover audiences and important personas for topics/industries - Ask: finally and this might be the best place to start, ask existing customers / users. if you're catering to an industry you're not part of, just ask your first users where they usually hang out or if they know about other people from their niche and where they hang out Depending on who your customers are one or a combination of the above will get you to your goal. Keep in mind to uncover the "where they are" you would already need to know the "who they are"

to sell in "mass production" with ads you really first need to understand your product and why it exists. the iterative process of refine the idea should already kicked off a while before you run any ads

Running ads without a clear product position is like throwing money out of the window.

I ran ads for one of the Android apps I had built several years ago and it was just a waste of money for me. In my experience, you may only run ads if you're directly selling a product or service and you have some good advantages from that of your competitor.

We did! Google Ads. We got really good metrics on the ads but unsure if some of the traffic was coming from "click farms", because we had an unusual amount of clicks come from India & Pakistan compared to the rest of the world. This is our first time running google ads, and we don't really know what we're doing, haha
Most companies make the mistake of flushing more and more of bigger budgets into their ads thinking that will save them. But if a small budget ad didn't work at all, big won't either for sure. That means, something else was to be fixed in the first place. Congratulations @olenabomko for your launch. Just dropped a comment there, will be checking out soon.

We had some success running Google ads to build an email list. However we haven’t run any ads for conversion yet. And with the Google ads it was hard to tell how much of the clicks were real vs. how much of that traffic was driven by click farms.
