I think we all have learned to process time in a calendar format, so this is hard to shake, but at the beginning of a project it is hard to estimate work scope and time needed to complete, being more loose with specific dates and instead focusing on build milestones seems like progress from blind guesses on dates that leads to "delays" that could have been avoided with better estimation
