Is there truth to saying in person meetings are always more productive or does it depend on the type of meeting?

In person. But virtual has its place.

@kiakamgar if you have something physical the team need to touch/use then in person for sure. I also think when people start having side conversations in person, itās really hard for people on zoom to know whatās going on
Online, with cameras off š

@annitahzl really? Do you have camera off always? And your manager/boss is ok with that?
virtual

I think it depends on what the meeting is about. If itās about something that requires me to be creative and discuss something then it would need to be in-person. If itās just a meeting that is updating or just requires me to understand whatās happening then online.
I prefer virtual meetings

@andrew_noah is it because you prefer to note work, so it can counterproductive to go into the office just for a meeting?

Virtual meetings. They're convenient, efficient, and save time.
In person if possible. Virtual has its place and allows you to connect and interact without travel and expenses. But if Iām trying to really connect with someone, itās easier to read body language and there is more focus when I do the face-to-face meetings. They just arenāt always realistic, so having the virtual option is a good second option.

Well, I think the preference depends on the nature of the meeting and the goals to be achieved. But in general, I would prefer virtual meetings ofc

@yasinsimsek1910 do you prefer virtual meeting because you prefer remote work?
I actually prefer virtual meetings, especially when everyone has their cameras on. It strikes a nice balance between the convenience of meeting remotely and still being able to see each other's expressions and reactions

@radomir_djokovic do you prefer virtual meetings because you prefer remote work as opposed to being in the office?
virtual is much easier but in person is more efficient

In person meetings are good when you gotta talk face to face about something important. But online meetings are way more convenient in general.

@burmistrov yeah that makes sense. Or when you have to show the team something physical like product or packaging etc

Both are totally fine as long as the agenda is discussed and all the required work is done.
many variables come into the mix. spending 14yrs doing in person meetings, then switching to mostly online, can safely say that unless you're able to apply yourself and perform async efficiently, then stick to in person. otherwise, from personal experience, online meetings have changed my life

@hussein_hashish I guess they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Working remotely makes total sense for virtual, but when trying to physically show something then in person makes sense.

I agree @austinarmstrong, virtual meetings bring immense convenience, especially when working with a geographically dispersed team. š Technology has made it possible for us to collaborate effectively without the need for physical presence. However, in-person meetings do have their place especially for crucial, complex discussions. I'd say it's more about the topic at hand, rather than a blanket statement about productivity. š¤š What do others think?
Depends on the type of meetings - standard business as usual, virtual is totally fine but any team bonding sessions and/or QBRs for example, in person meetings are usually better
